Ugh, or more likely I didn't see his post from two months ago until now, and got some mild amusement out of it considering the bottom of the barrel news he scrapes up from time to time (constantly) for his own pet issue.

I sure hope this guy isn't guilty. If he is, we traded away 5 terrorists and sacrificed our own men to save a traitor who will rot in prison for the rest of his life. That's an utter disgrace.

There's almost no chance that he's not guilty, he intentionally left behind his "sensitive items" to give him the most time before he was missed and shipped most of his stuff back to the states. There's almost no chance he's not guilty of what they charged him with and honestly he's probably guilty of outright treason...though that can't really be proven.

The trade was an outright disgrace but the nonsense at the white house with his parents was even more disgraceful. To make matters worse, I fully expect this president to pardon the piece of crap on his way out of office

Just looking at this guy's father, what do you think would be the probability that he votes democratic? I'd say 99.9999%, with the .0001% being he might vote for the green party or some anarchy party.

In fact, in thinking this through further his dad might actually glynch.

Context kind of matters. If you followed along more closely you would understand the context in which the thread was posted.

It's actually where you don't treat him differently because you think he's a deserter. He's an active US solider until otherwise determined in a court of law and gets treated as one and all reasonable attempts should be made to bring him back. Maybe the trade is unreasonable regardless, but that should have nothing at all to do with whether you think he's deserter. It appears you're not much of a fan of due process either, based on your comments here.

Due process means I'm not going to imprison him without a trial, it doesn't mean I support trading 5 Taliban commanders for him. That was a really stupid move even if he wasn't someone that was facing a life sentence (until the president pardons him) upon returning.

You don't have to have a stupid or ignorant opinion just because the guy hasn't been convicted yet.

There's enough public testimony from people who served with him to draw that conclusion for the purposes of a message board discussion.

If we were on a jury or tribunal asked to render a verdict, the burden of proof would be different.

Simple as that and those 5 terrorist are probably dead already or will be soon.

I just wouldn't give dude the death penalty though.

No, they are living in Qatar currently and will be allowed to leave and do whatever they want in 2 months. They'll almost certainly re-join the battlefield shortly thereafter.

I'd support either the death penalty for treason or life imprisonment for misbehavior before the enemy.

Well if he is guilty, he will probably be pounding sand in Fort Leavenworth for the rest of his life. He will wish he was executed.

Well, sure he'll probably get that sentence, but the current president will probably pardon him on his way out so Berghdal won't have to fully pay for his crimes. After that we won't hear from him till he gets caught trying to join ISIS.

Well like I said... Will soon be dead.

I wonder what was his track record before he took off running. Like how long was he over there and how many times has he engaged in battle. Maybe that could be taking under consideration. Just the same... Giving a guy the death penalty because he turned tail and ran is going overboard. And we have criminals over here who do worst and they don't get life in prison. And doing 5 years over there is probably the equivalent to 20 years in these hotel prison system we have (that's why we have so many repeat offenders... it's comfortable there and they get very good care).

And one American is worth 5 terrorist. Why give them the benefit of punishing our own. And it's not like giving them back 5 terrorist who were dumb enough to get caught in the 1st place are the key pieces they need to rule the world.

Careful. You risk being labeled as continuing the "clown show" by those that defend he who shall not be criticized.

    Such a stinging insult.
