[2014-15] Jeremy Lin as a Los Angeles Laker

Signing Lin was NOT a mistake, it was a GAMBLE that didn't pan out. We were in full tank mode before we got Harden, hence signing unproven players like Asik and Lin. Then we got Harden and everything changed. If we knew we weren't getting Bosh, I am pretty certain we might have simply kept Lin instead of paying someone to take him off our hands because he was still suitable as a backup behind Beverley as long as we didn't leave him in the game when the game is on the line.

No doubt we would have performed worse with Lin handling the ball over whomever else is backing up Terry.

The only reason we would have kept him is so that he didn't cost us a 1st round pick to ditch. But then again, he is getting paid $7m more than the amount he counts against the cap this season, it is very very possible to simply buy a late 1st round pick for $3m. We could do that and STILL be ahead $4m, and not have to worry about a wild and out of control malcontent.

 

I would think that the person who paid $10m over 2 years is not as dumb as the one who is paying $15m over 1 year??
