I believe his point is that Parsons is not a guy who will be a star because of his elitr athleticism, he just doesnt have elite level. Sure, plenty of unathletic stars, but they all have qualities Parsons does not possess

You must have missed my first post when I said this:

Parsons does NOTHING at an elite level and lacks the athleticism to compensate for the fact that he has no elite skills. To break into the star tier, you HAVE to have at least one or more of that in order to separate from the rest of the pack:

    - Nash: Elite court vision, elite shooting, elite passing, very high basketball IQ
    - Dirk: Elite shooting for size (high release point and can shoot from anywhere), elite size
    - Pierce: Elite shooting, elite ball handling, elite footwork, very high basketball IQ, elite slasher, clutch
    - Larry Bird: Elite shooting, elite court vision, elite passing, very good defender, elite basketball IQ, elite mental toughness, clutch

Those guys you mentioned may not be the athletic at an elite level, but they all have elite skills that separates them. Parsons does nothing at an elite level.

Last game I saw Parsons play, he couldn't hit the side of a red barn with a brick bat. His shot was real flat. Remember those?

    Chandy P was awesome tonight

    12 points

    5 rebounds

    2 assists

and a +/- of -13 until the end of the fourth

Man the Rockets really miss this guy....

Max player money for the 44th player on the scoring leaders list.

Looks about like Harden's stat line against the Suns. Well, other than being -13 instead of -27. Maybe Parsons should be an MVP candidate?

I don't think @HardenHardon was serious in that post. You can't clown on Parsons for a bad game without pointing out that Harden just provided an even greater clunker.

He's overpaid but Dallas really suffered with him out of the lineup. With the cap rising in 2016, I think his contract will be the new going-rate for jack of all trades players.

Yes, Harden has a bad game maybe once a month while Parsons has a bad game once a week. Very comparable.
He will always get **** with that huge ass contract that Dallas gifted him. You don't pay someone superstar money to play like a super role player.

I don't fault a player's performance because of his contract. Management gave him the contract. If some idiot gave you millions of dollars to do something mediocre, would you have refused?

That said, our hatred of Parsons is not about his contract but about HOW he left with an attitude of contempt to the Rockets.

    Exactly.

Can't fault a player for taking the money. Playing careers can end in an instant and if some fool is offering you millions more than your "real" value, then you take it, no questions asked.

The hate Parsons received should be based on how and when he signed the contract (at a club in the middle of the night right when we were in the middle of trying to bring Bosh to Houston) and those backhanded passive comments he said afterward concerning the Rockets and the city of Houston (calling Dallas a cleaner city, Rockets not treating him well, etc.)

    At least you get it.

I forget, though, that this thread is all about cherry-picking isolated events, stripping them of any context, then using it to feel better about ourselves for Morey messing up the Parsons situation or carrying a whole lot of sour grapes because, passively anyways, Parsons was such a meanie-head.

It was simply a post about throwing stones from a glass house; a metaphor easily grasped by folks mature enough to not walk around with this big of a chip on their shoulder because of some athlete sent a few tweets some months ago. I sometimes make the false assumption that the average IQ of this forum might actually stretch beyond the high-teens, though. I suppose that is my mistake.

Spot on about the contract, though. Contracts that stretch a couple/few years in to the new salary cap are going to look like much better (or at least, more reasonable) deals than they do right now.

No kidding. If I get the chance to see the Rockets play the Mavs in the Toy Box this season (still have a game in April, so not impossible), I'll happily boo Parsons with a big grin on my face, maybe every time he touches the ball. Depends on how much I have to drink. ;-)-

He has looked more like a "role player" this season than a "star" in my opinion. He is what he always was, a good complimentary player.
