I flinched at that number initially but, in all honesty he probably will get something close to that.
Doubt it, he is decent in some of the stats and eye test, but he is still a backup in the pathetic Lakers team. I would say his per will be under 5 mils per, and probably just a 2 years deal. But I am pretty sure TJ next contract will be higher than his next.
My guess will be either a 3 years for 10 mils or 2+1 (last year team option )years for 10 mils (first 2 year) deal.
1 year 4 mil. pretty sure the CBA thing will make most players not wanna be locked in past 2016 season.
I been thinking the same I think only SCRUBs will try to lock up long term to not compete next year with the soopa stars Rocket River
Lets see. He's a 6'10" center who is averaging only 23 minutes and less than 10 points/8 rebounds on one of the worst teams in the league, and one of the worst defensive/rim protecting teams in quite some time. Jordan Hill, Boozer, and Ed Davis are partially to blame for that along with crappy perimeter D, and a mind numbing coach. NBA GM's are going to need data to give contracts, and a track record for market comparables. Some comparable players GM's will clump him in with- -Mahinmi- 4 mil per -P. Patterson- 6 mil per -Humphries - 4.5 mil per Also alot of the same teams that go after Brandon Wright will have Davis as their next option most likely. The offer he gets will be probably a little less than that. Might be a good idea for Davis to take a 1 year deal and test his luck the next Summer with the cap raises. I think he's a solid backup big, but without the size to guard 5's full time, without a track record for reliability as a defensive anchor, and time as a starter limits his earning potential.
Not very impressed with Ed Davis. He is almost 26 and he is basically a finished product. He is a decent (if inconsistent) rebounder. Average defender at best but he is a decent to good shot blocker. He will stick in the league for a good career because he is serviceable and makes decent depth. The problem with Davis is that he has hit his ceiling and it is not at all spectacular. Unlike a player that may have similar stats and production that might be 2 to 4 years younger that is still developing, teams will not look at him and be infatuated enough with any potential to sign him to a significant contract. That's not to say that Ed can't turn the corner and take a significant step forward, it is just exceptionally unlikely for a journeyman 26 year old player on his 3rd team with out ever having made a noticeable impact. I've seen absolutely nothing to indicate he has raised his value since signing his 2 year minimum contract worth about a million a year. However, I have to believe that he is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of the MLE or slightly less.
I understand where you're coming and have no argument with the fact that he is obviously on a contract drive since he's a pending free agent. However, look at these numbers: Honest question here. if Ed Davis at 25 is only worth the MLE after this season, what would you say Terrence Jones or DMo is worth if they were free agents after this season at their respective ages?
He's an outstanding P&R big and an above average defender. His shooting percentage will put him second in the league within a few games, once he has enough shots to qualify. His downside is that all his shots are at the rim, he has no range at all. If he can bring his free throw percentage up he'd be worth quite a bit though, just due to his P&R ability and defense. Probably 6m/yr or a little more.
So, offensively, he's a garbage man/finisher, putbacks and pick-and-rolls. And defensively he's above average. Worth around $6 million per. So.....possible 3rd big in a great big man rotation?
Describes him pretty well. He could be really solid in the right environment--makes up for his crap range with really good positioning and timing, but you can only have one of those type guys on the floor at a time for most offenses.
Let's compare their production this season: Davis: Age 25 - 8.3pts/7.5rbs/1.3blk on .601 TS% ORtg: 126 DRtg: 106 DMo: Age 24 - 11.8pts/6.0rbs/0.5blk on .547 TS% ORtg: 107 DRtg: 105 TJones: Age 23 - 12.4pts/7.3rbs/1.6blk on .560 TS% ORtg: 114 DRtg: 102 I would say that DMo and Jones being younger gives them an advantage, you get a lot more scoring with DMo and you can feature him a little more on offense. I say DMo would get paid more but not by a lot. Jones though looks to have a clear advantage, just recently turning 23, great defensive presence and a very good offensive skillset, he would probably get paid the most IMO. Also, Jones' numbers would probably be higher this season if not for his freak injuries, as a starter this season he is - 15.4pts/9.0rbs/1.6blk on .591 TS% ORtg: 118 DRtg: 101 Those are just outstanding numbers for a 23 year old.
You're not accounting for the fact that Ed Davis is playing on a crap team. He's got a PER over 20 right now. That's very difficult to do (especially on a BAD TEAM) unless he's ultra efficient. Which he has been this season. If you look at possession data or minute data, you will see that he stacks up very favorably with our 2 guys. He's a better rebounder, and better defender than either guy and he finishes at the rim just as well as Terrence. Doesn't have Terrence's handle nor DMo's jump shot. But he's better (or just as good) in all other areas. I'm wondering what his numbers would be here playing with Harden on a winning team. If he can do that this year playing with the teammates he has on the Lakers .... obviously he'd do even better here.
I could see him spelling Dwight, but I don't think he could play with him very effectively--that would ruin the spacing. He's a bit small to play center for long stretches if Dwight is out. Harden would love him for P&R...he sets really solid screens, has good hands, and he reads things well. He has no post game so he would need a P&R partner to keep up that level of efficiency. Not as useful at closing games because he has a lousy free throw percentage. He's definitely better on defense than DMo or Jones.
Nice post. But you might be banging your head against a brick wall talking sense to bobbythejpotmacaholic.
Jones has one of the best opponent fg% amongst big men in tbe entire NBA this season.... He has progressed more this season on defence than Harden has
