Why pull cater out for a punch runner there? 3-3... Even if it's spring training

    A.J. Hinch on Spring Training

Click through for the outstanding video.

Gotta say that my confidence level in Hinch is way higher than it ever was in his predecessor.

    Mike Cameron?

And yes, snowconeguy, Alan Ashby is a travesty. Other than Hawk Harrelson in Chicago I can't think of anyone worse.

Since I started listening to a lot of games on Sirius a couple of years ago, I've realized that there are a lot of them that are worse. I know it's radio and it's the Yankees so they deserve it haha, but John Sterling is AWFUL

I'm not projecting Marisnick to ever hit 30 HRs. If Marisnick bats 0.260 with his speed and power, he'll likely be better than some "stars", but star involves perception. Guys like Marisnick that get most of their value from defense don't get as much credit in media and as an offensive player of similar value.

I'm thinking Marisnick bats around 0.235 which would still make him the best option in CF for Astros.

I'm pulling for Wojo for the 5th spot. I saw him in a AAA game 2 years ago 1-hit Round Rock. When he's on, he can paint the corners. For him, the most important thing is keeping the ball down because he's not entirely overpowering. He'd be another in the rotation that won't put up big K numbers but will keep the ball in the park.

Also making a mental note to get to Corpus for a game early in the season. I doubt Correa and Appel will be there all season and Fresno doesn't come to Round Rock this year.

I saw him yesterday and didn't even know who the hell he was. Dude was undrafted and came through independent ball. He can strike people out (11.7 per 9). He's probably gonna start at AAA and is a very intriguing bullpen option. A guy that can strike people out has the potential to become a dominant reliever.

Barring a collapse the 5th starter job appears to be Woj's. I think Deduno becomes the bullpen swingman. I imagine Fausto gets his walking papers.

I agree. Deduno's recent bad outing put Woj in the drivers seat from a stats perspective, and has been so good it would be hard to not choose him.

It is hard to imagine Carmona (Hernandez) getting the job given his similar numbers to Deduno (Don't know GB/FB ratios, but Ks favor Deduno) & Woj's great spring, especially given that they have to pay him $2.65M if he makes the team.

Plus, what do you gain by sending Wojo back to AAA? Hernandez is what he is and nothing more...a 5th starter. Wojo is potentially more and I think there is no real risk in giving him the shot to start the season. Only thing they might lose is an option on him. From what I've seen of him in person, I think he has a good chance to become a middle of the rotation type.

Drellich speculates that Hernandez is the guy.

Appel has to be called up this year. Maybe 6-7 starts in AA and 10 in AAA but he's ready

If he's not the best guy for the spot, he's 34, and he doesn't want to go to AAA, then who cares if he goes to another club? I don't understand why that would play into the equation. What are the odds that losing him becomes something that bites us in the butt? I'd say pretty damn low.

I see absolutely no reason to cry over possibly losing a 34 year old who has been mediocre (at best) throughout his entire career. This isn't some guy who has shown great potential of any kind. He had a FIP of 4.85 last year.

Agree, I'm hoping we are past the point of wasting starts on a guy just to give a younger guy a few more innings on the farm

Give it to the guy who gives you the best chance to win

And as for depth, not like the team couldn't just go to:

    Deduno
    Buchanan
    Straily
    White

Going with Hernandez not only costs the team $2.65M, but the team will also need to cut someone (not that there aren't a couple of candidates).
