This video seems to be against you. Gordon has pg-type lateral quickness. The dude is a beast on defense. But that's not even the point, the point is you are willing to defend your position just to save face and not be wrong, when you are clearly wrong. https://youtu.be/xeOPr54d-qE
It's amazing how always looks to pass which is how he opens shots for himself. He looks the defender off.
His 1on1 D against Harden was pretty damn stout last game. How good is Payton? Houston Rockets‘ guard James Harden told Elfrid Payton’s father that he was “real good” “Your boy is good,” Houston Rocket’s guard James Harden told Payton’s father via Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders. “Real good.” http://fansided.com/2014/10/29/james-harden-elfrid-payton-real-good/ It wasn't random that he was invited to Team USA training camp. I just think it's cool that he's a Rajin Cajun. Texas-Louisiana. Gulf Coast Brothers. I love our bball culture here in the South.
Payton is great defensively, so is Oladipo. But we got sidetracked arguing about Orlando's poor defensive frontcourt, I was talking about Gordon not Payton.
He's something special, one of very few PGs who can play in the paint a bit, where he can either finish against a smaller/weaker PG or create offense for others since he attracts defenders down low. He is going to be really good.
It's hard to judge rookies, but he looks like the best in the class behind Andrew Wiggins so far, and if he develops a jumper he could be a seriously good point guard. One thing that is for sure is that Orlando owned the draft the last two years. Oladipo/Payton could be one of the best backcourts in the league very soon, and if Aaron Gordon pans out, they have a solid future.
If Payton had took Bev's money in that game, then Lillard probably got raped last night by him. That's some horrifying defense.
He is gonna be a star...he was blowing by bev like bev never existed. Then again, Bev hasn't played good defense for the past 2 months.
If he was selfish and padded his stats, he could average 20/10 easily. His BBIQ is superior to Wiggin and others in class. He is also an underrated defender. Worst case: Rondo 2.0 Best case : Jason Kidd
the issue is this : you can see from above video, his scoring almost has none outside the paint. his jump shot is as broken as Nick Johnson. I think given Nick Johnson a full season of playing time as Payton, he could have some games like this. You can't be a great PG in this league in this era that can not shoot.
This was true back when they played them. Ben's defense the last few weeks has been quite solid, though.
All basic and advanced defensive stats and net ratings point to Gordon having a negative defensive effect on Orlando in every regard. Being a physical guy doesn't mean you're capable of defending on the NBA level and against offensive schemes. A YouTube clip isn't exactly the best way of defending your statements .
Gordon is an absolute NBA nobody right now. I'll give him some time before passing judgement on what he can/should become. ----------------------- Can we talk about Payton's hair? I know that part of it is his style, but I can't help imagining he's going to use it to draw fouls like Harden and his beard
Andrew Wiggins has a 13 per. Most of the comments and projections about him are based on his talent, not what he's already accomplished. From all accounts about Gordon, he is a tremendous defender. So a statement claiming that Orlando doesn't have any defenders outside of dipo and payton seemed rather strange to me. Of course, if you are only interested in winning a discussion on an internet bbs keep right on pointing to the first year stats of a 19 year old rookie to back you up about this statement: Aaron Gordon is a terrible, or below average defender. Oh but after I put it that way you crawfish back and say I am only talking about his first year stats and we don't know what he is: blah blah blah. Again, in no universe is aaron gordon a terrible defender, in no universe will he be a terrible defender, or just a bench player. carry on.
I called it. Wing players that are unskilled, can't shoot and aren't all-world athletically are (at best) role players in the NBA. Aaron Gordon's upside is Corey Brewer.
Great how we point out he has the right tools and upside, yet what repeatedly claims we say he'll always be a terrible defender and no starter.

More like the former Rockets : Thomas Robinson. Don't be surprise the Magic will give him up next year and Morey will again take a gamble and eventually he will end up at the 76ers.
