Would guess Rasmus starts in LF, but CF still is an open position. Grossman and Presley fighting for the 4th outfielder. I think Grossman is the' better player, but he still has options. Valbuena at 3B is official. Gattis will not be learning 1B this spring so it appears he is a DH, LF, and C. I hope he gets most of his ABs at DH to rest his knees. Would not surprise me to see him start in left or DH if healthy. Astros having depth is a first for a while. Correa... only a matter of time.
Yea I know Correa isn't going to start the year out with the big club, but if there was no chance of him being up at all this year it sure seems like he would have already been moved down to minor league camp. He is getting a long long look. I would think if the team is doing well and Correa is dominating in the minors, there is a chance we see him this year
IMO here is zero chance Rasmus starts the season on the bench because of a poor spring. If he struggles he will eventually lose his job, but he was signed with the intention of starting. They will super platoon to make sure Marisnick gets regular PA, and he will start if anybody gets hurt, which Gattis may already be. Bad outing by Deduno, and another good one from Woj. Not a lot of Spring left and he's starting to put a stranglehold on the job.
Definitely agree, no chance Rasmus isn't a starter. It comes down to Singleton vs Marisnik and right now I'm thinking Singleton has a spot, he has been a doubles machine
Kuechel very sharp thus far... against the Yankees regular lineup. I'm predicting Kuechel to be in the running for a Cy Young award this year.
One of the few stats that matters in spring training is ABs. It has nothing to do with performance at the plate, but seeing who the manager is trying to get ready and who is healthy. Veterans typically get a few less ABs, but Lowrie still has more ABs while Astros are getting a good long look at Correa. I still think Rasmus starts (95%), but his low number of ABs causes me to have some doubt even though I agree he was signed to start in the OF.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>jake marisnick looks so good in CF, one scout said, "if he hits.260 he'll be a star." <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/astros?src=hash">#astros</a></p>— Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) <a href="https://twitter.com/JonHeymanCBS/status/579426894954831873">March 21, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
well, remember, the .260 includes speed and power, and great defense. So yes, .260 and with the speed/power combo he could be an all star
I'm not sure he would be perceived as a star if he batted .260, but he would be a well above average player if he did that a whole season.
First game I've seen this sprint training... Love seeing the good guys on TV. That was a good inning, two triples. Ready for baseball, love coming home from work to see a game on TV.
Not to jinx it, but the game is on in North Texas as well. Hope that continues during the regular season and I can catch the games all year versus just when they play the Rangers or during the live look ins on MLB Network. Interesting article in the Chronicle today: Altuve, Springer, Carter, and Castro as the top 4. Guessing that Gattis would bat 5th, followed by Valbuena, Singleton, Lowrie, Marisnick/Rasmus?
Out of all the projected improvement for this team , I will say Ashby still sucks behind the booth . Give me Brown and Blum instead . When ashby speaks I just wish he would shut up he has an annoying manner of speech and the content he brings is not interesting at all .
