    How long does a broken rib usually keep a guy out? I hope it's not more than a month. We need him back for the playoffs.

    A broken or even bruised ribs is one of the most PAINFUL injuries to deal with... it can literally hurt with every breath, let alone when he flexes/extends that arm.

    He could come back with a flack-jacket/protection, but that often hinders flexibility for basketball players.

    Best you can hope for is no damage to the lungs, no pneumothorax, and just a bad bruise that can get better with pain injections and anti-inflammatories.
