I agree with both of these wholeheartedly.

Practically, I don't see it. In my own experience (and, yeah, almost all of the people I live around are Republican) I don't see the compassion to begin with. We have lost the notion of "the unfortunate" and instead decided that what you get in life is exactly what you earn. Which is a complete load of crap.

 

The real question, Max, is:

I think I expressed that same sort of thought later in that post. Theoretically what I said is perfectly fine, but in practice the problem is most don't actually adhere to the idea of "Government should compel me but I will do it on my own."

You really think so? Jesus might have said "render unto caesar" .... but in the end, HE kind of got rendered unto Caesar, if the gospel events are historically correct.

If anything, I think Jesus would not want to be excluded from being a part of our lives and that includes how we govern our society. Excluding the wisdom of his word means excluding Jesus as well. Having said that, I can understand why someone would object to having the Ten Commandments displayed, especially if they are not a Christian. I would not want to have another religions teachings being displayed or being used to help govern our society. Yes, I'm being biased!... As far as tax payer money or extravagant displays (Ten Commandments), well I could humbly make it out of cardboard and color it with crayons and it still wouldn't be accepted by a certain party!

Once again, I don't think Jesus would endorse either party! Although both have some good things in their agenda, they both turn their back on some of his teachings!

He may favor totalitarianism where dissidents are thrown into a lake of fire and the remaining citizens just praise his glory all day long. But, at least there would be no more pain or sickness or hunger or death -- or taxes!

Really he'd be a communist in the truer definition of it rather than the 50's perversion of it. In a selfless, non-violent world where people put all their human desires aside, trusted their fate to the Lord, only acted to glorify His name and ensure their place in heaven you wouldn't even need a government, just communal associations to organize collaborative work.

Of course you are going to need a actual, perceivable facts to convince people to get with the program.

Well he wasn't born American but after his crucifixion (Matthew 27), resurrection (John 20), and ascension (Acts 1) in Jerusalem, Jesus visited the peoples living in the Americas (Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 11).

At that point it's reasonable to assume he took the naturalization test and became a citizen.
