We really lack size and the ability to bruise. I really thought Dorsey could be our bruiser but he just doesn't get it yet. I wish mutombo was around to teach these guys how to use the elbow.

Does not matter. Where the front line ranks.

Ability to guard the front line is what matters.

Both Howard and Jones are pretty good in terms of length and athleticism. What makes the likes of DeAndre Jordan dangerous is athletic big plus good point guard. Jordon has FG% of whopping 72% while shooting only 40% at the freethrow line. Imagine we get a decent upgrade at the point guard position.

Sure , this big man group is deep & versatile .... but they have been getting hammered on the boards and giving up a lot of points in the paint in recent games and really ever since Dwight went out.

With a healthy Dwight , I think they are as good as any as a group top to bottom in the league .... Without Dwight I doubt they are better than any of the other playoff teams.

While I say they are among the best group top to bottom with Dwight , there are several teams who have better starting pairs - Memphis , LAC , Portland - You could argue for Dallas and NO.

Its the depth and versatility that sets this group apart.

Their achilles heel is their collective FT shooting .... If it weren't for Harden , this team might rival the worst FT shooting teams of all time. Howard , Dorsey & Smith shooting 50% or worse , DMo 58% and Jones in the mid 60's.
Teams will have a lot of options to HackaRocket.

Because of that , I have to place them near the bottom (If all teams are healthy).

The depth is nice as a regular season luxury - but you have to remember, quality bench players become less useful the deeper in the playoffs you get, as rotations shorten and starters play more.

I think Dwight and Terrence is still competitive with those incredible duos, but it's not in the top half with any version of Dwight in the last 4 years.

If it's the front court that held Deandre Jordan to three offensive rebounds in the second half of the most recent game against the Clips, then I think we're looking pretty good. If it's the front court that gets outrebounded by 20 rebounds in a game, that's not so good. Calvin said it best as usual: you can still box out someone that's taller and bigger than you to get the rebound.

If we are taking just 2 players then the Rockets have a decent 2 man big man rotation if Howard is 100% healthy.

If we are talking entire front court rotation then the Rockets are really good but not balanced.

We have 2 undersized centers in Howard and Dorsey and 3 PFs.

The thunder's 4 man rotation of:

Ibaka/Kanter/Collison/Adams is probably the more versatile on defense with their size and length and athleticism.

Memphis with Gasol and Randolph are probably the most skilled.
Clippers with Jordan and Griffin are the most atheltic

Outside of the Thunder and Spurs there is a decent drop off in skill when going to their bench. With the Rockets assuming that Howard and Jones would start - you now go to DMo and Josh Smith off the bench which is better IMO than other team's bench big man rotation with the exception of the Thunder.

I think we have to re-assess this once Howard is back so we can see how healthy he is and how much of the "old" Dwight he is. I mean if he was playoff Dwight like last year then things will be perfectly fine.

This should allow us to throw alot of people at the other team 3-4-5
Throw in Ariza/Brewer and the defense should be solid

Since depth is much less important in the playoffs, I would say the Rockets rank behind every frontcourt except GS and OKC if everyone is healthy.

Not sure where you're getting depth is less important. It's very critical that a team has reliable players to come in and contribute.
