Seems like bad springs lead to job losses... more than good springs lead to ensuring roster spots. So much variability in spring training baseball... hopefully teams have come a long way in determining which parameters to look at other than simply ST game performance, when determining if a player should make the team or not.
Scouting is so more important in spring training than stats. Fastball velocity (in late spring), K% (for batters and pitchers), and ABs are the top stats to look at if you are going to look at stats. Fastball velocity lets you know if there is an injury or aging. K% stabilizes quickly, but even then spring is pretty short for them. ABs correspond to who is likely to start where.
Jake Marisnick is an amazing player in Spring Training. .384/.427/.570 career. Is currently hitting over .400 for the 3rd straight spring.
Sure.... but Luke Scott didn't start hitting till he turned 28, so its all about how long we're willing to wait!
Today is the first of four games that will be shown on ROOT, all at noon. Today(Tuesday) Friday March 20th Sunday March 22nd Monday March 23rd __________________________________________ <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> announced today Dallas Keuchel (<a href="https://twitter.com/kidkeuchy">@kidkeuchy</a>) will start <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/OpeningDay?src=hash">#OpeningDay</a> on April 6 at Minute Maid Park. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Represent?src=hash">#Represent</a></p>— Houston Astros (@astros) <a href="https://twitter.com/astros/status/577849764491829248">March 17, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I'll be honest, I haven't watched much of the Astros for the past couple of years (changing that this year) and have no idea who this Keuchel guy is. Can't wait though.
It is... hopefully get to see Appel for one of these other three games. And hope they put more games on TV in the future... should be no reason why the Pirates show more ROOT games than the Astros do. Carter swinging the bat well.... and get to see #1 in the game now (pinch running).
I am sure it will not be high, but I am curious how the ratings of today's game compare to that of the normal repeat stuff they show during the day. If the money makes sense, they will.
I'm irritated that I forgot today's game was on Root Sports. I set my DVR to recording but missed the first hour or so of the game.
Start watching top of 4th and thats when the double hitting parade began. Holy crap this makes me happy to watch the first spring action this year. Holy crap does Springer bring that oppo power.
