https://twitter.com/ArashMarkazi/status/576424461907329024 This one with ESPN's Tom Haberstroh, for writing an article disagreeing with Doc's assertion that DeAndre Jordan is the clear DPOY. Rivers said that Haberstroh's article did not even discuss Jordan's rebounding. Turns out that the article did address this very point. Rivers admits that he never read the article, and was just told by Clippers PR staffers about it. Is DeAndre Jordan the DPOY in your opinion? If not, who is?
I think he will clearly win the award. I'm not sure he deserves it or not, but blocks and rebounds are almost always the criteria, even if you aren't so good at man defense
Jordan is the "Marcus Camby of 2006/07" candidate. Tons of rebounds and blocks, but not really the best defensive player. Both of them steal defensive rebounds from teammates and are not great in all aspects of defense. Their teams are also only about average defensively. I wonder if the increasing awareness of analytics and stuff like "Real Plus Minus" is going to change how people look at these things this year compared to 8 years ago. If anything, Doc Rivers is making people (and voters for this award) more aware of Haberstroh's article and the arguments that he makes.
Draymond Green should and will win this award. He has been very important to the Dubs defensively and has been a great defender overall.
