Everyone keeps saying he's old... he still had a pretty good season last year. Would one still rank him as one of the top NTs in the league?
One of the best defensive players apparently: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Vince Wilfork is 33 years old and graded as the 40th best defensive player in the league by <a href="http://t.co/8uNQkQox17">http://t.co/8uNQkQox17</a> in 2014.</p>— Mike K (@Zepp1978) <a href="https://twitter.com/Zepp1978/status/575634701613858816">March 11, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Had such a great year he got cut by the Patriots....when's the last time the Pats cut someone and then they went on to be awesome? I still support going out to get him but I think it's important to note that he's old, fat, and he's suffered a torn Achilles in the past...not the best recipe for aging well. He also had a down season last year.
I'll take it. He can definitely be the big NT we've been coveting and create some space for Watt to do damage. Hope he joins
I don't take ESPN to mean much. PFF had him as a top 10 running stopping DE heading into Week 17 last year.
Wilfork didn't really play as much NT as people think though in NE. He was running as a 3-4 end a lot.
"Fat" in this instance is a positive, no? but I hear ya, he's definitely on the wrong side of 30. At any rate, hopefully its not too much guaranteed money and the Texans can cut him if he things don't pan out this year. He did start all 16 games last season.
LOL it's super positive a lot of the time, I just don't want to go full homer on this. There are potential red flags to signing an old fat guy that the Pats no longer want.
Ryan Pickett is 35 and did an admirable job last season. I'm jacked about big Vince coming in. Now sign an inside linebacker
Pickett did such a good job that I hope they bring him back for the minimum even if they do sign Wilfork. Cut Poe, dude is terrible. A run stuffing line of Wilfork-Pickett-Watt would be badass and if they go four man front with Crick on the other side I'm fine with that too.
They cut him last year too did they not? and then ended up re-signing him somehow. Not sure how they do it but I'm not buying that the Patriots are done with him but I guess if he leaves the Pats they probably aren't as interested as I think.
100%. His agent is using the threat of us to get Indy to up their offer. Honestly, I'd rather try and re-sign Pickett and spend the money elsewhere.
I could see him wanting to join the retirement village for Miami players in Indy, but there's probably every bit as much reason for him to want to join BOB and RAC in Houston. At this point I think it's a toss-up.
I hope we don't flinch. It's not a smart use of money, to acquire an above average NT vs a mediocre one as opposed to trying to get an above average vs average OLB, ILB, WR, hell any other position almost than NT.
It is strange that his agent is publically saying "Houston". I think he ends back up in New England. He anchors that defense.
leverage. It's a signal to NE and/or the Colts to up the ante. Alternative theory: he really wants to go to the Texans but by mentioning Houston, why tip a preference if a deal hasn't been signed yet when they still are holding out (presumably) for more $$$ ? doesn't make a lot of sense its a ploy to get better offers from any team...
