Reggie Wayne was on his last legs. Big upgrade from Wayne.

I am too. But, unlike you, I recognize everything Dre has done for the franchise. Real fans appreciate everything our best players have done for the franchise. He'll come back and retire as a Texan, guaranteed. What will you do then, go slurp on him again?

I bet you told Hakeem to go f himself as well that year with the Raptors. And if you saw him now you couldn't wait to go shake his hand.

Still just a 3rd option so he's an upgrade, but not that big of one given his limited role.

I recognize everything he's done for the franchise.....just like I realize that he flipped the franchise the bird last year and continued to do to this day.

As to Hakeem, if he'd have left the Rockets like Dre left the Texans and immediately run to the Spurs we wouldn't view him the same way.

I'm sorry if you can't see the difference, but that really is your problem. Dre burned bridges on his way out.

"Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson apparently had enough after the team told him he would have to take on a smaller role in 2015. He has since asked for a trade or to be released outright.

Johnson was told by coach Bill O'Brien last week that he shouldn't expect to catch more than 40 passes for the upcoming season. This was Johnson's reaction, according to the Houston Chronicle:

"I just laughed. They gave me my role, and I just laughed at them. How do you tell a guy who is used to catching 80 balls a year that he was going to catch 40?"

Not finished degrading Johnson, O’Brien told him that he wouldn’t even be starting alongside wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

    Johnson’s responded with this:

"I was floored. I don’t feel like there is a guy on that team that can outplay me or outwork me. I mean, who am I going to play behind?

"So I was real honest with him: ‘If that’s your role for me, you’re going to be dealing with a miserable football player.'"

While it is not surprising that the Texans are having a hard time wanting to pay Johnson the more than $20 million he is due over the next two years, the way they handled the situation was pretty lousy, especially when you think of all the great things Johnson has done for the organization.

It sure looks like Johnson is finished in Houston after 13 seasons. The All-Pro receiver put up 13,597 yards and 67 scores during his career with the Texans."

It pisses me off just reading that. What absolute nonsense from the Texans.

Just be honest and say you can't afford him. Is it that damn hard?

Have we heard that from anyone other than AJ's people? I mean, it made financial sense to cut him, but I just can't see a team so image conscious saying something like that. And, salary issues aside, why would you say that to someone who is obviously capable of doing more? I just really have a hard time believing they'd approach him and say that.

Find it very hard to not believe what Andre Johnson said...There is no reason for him to lie about this. If that is the case, it makes total sense why he thought "Andrew Luck" right after he was released. He really does want to punish the Texans for the foreseeable future. While it wont be the first time a cut player bad mouths their former situation, Andre has no reason to make any of this up. Pathetic...smdh

Why would the Texans say anything truthful to AJ when he obviously can't keep his mouth shut to the media?!?! I don't hear BO'B discussing closed door meetings with players to the media.

AJ needs to get over it and shut up. The last few years from him, he's acting like such a little b**** and a diva.

I don't have a hard time believing it.

Remember when Rick Smith bluntly accused Ahman Green of faking an injury?

Or how about when, instead of asking him to restructure (something he claims he was amenable to), they just outright cut Eric Winston? When asked about it afterwards, Smith claimed he didn't want to insult Winston by asking him to a paycut.

Rick Smith does some really stupid things when it comes to player management sometimes.

If you listen to some on this board, he's not capable of doing more.

What I think happened is that last year they made promises to him that he was a part of their future and they wanted him to retire a Texan. He wanted to be re-assured of his place on the team moving forward and to appease him they made promises. Well, now they couldn't just go cut him and trade him. So they came up with a way to make him so uncomfortable or disrespected that he would want to leave on his own. That way he is off the team and they technically didn't break their promise. They should have just traded him last year. They would have gotten more from him, even with his contract. Obviously I might be wrong; these are just my thoughts.

How come? That's the way the Patriots FO handles things. North Easterners are blunt, almost rude about how they go about handling situations. No nonsense, no sugarcoating. Isn't that what people wanted from O'Brien?

Don't forget cutting Owen Daniels w/o offering a restructure because they had the great Garret Graham to sign.

It's one thing to be rude (or honest), it's another thing to be stupid.

Having Andre on the team and sending 40 balls his way is far more stupid than anything else.

For his sake, I hope he finds his franchise QB and starts winning soon. Or he'll be on the first bus out of here after a couple of disaster seasons. We can stand a rude and arrogant winner but no one wants to work with one that is losing.

I think they were being honest with him.

I thank Andre Johnson for being the face of this franchise for over a decade. However, I am and will always be a fan of the jersey that says "Houston" way more than any individual wearing the jersey. I can't wait until Andre is in the HOF so that we can say there's a Texan in the HOF

I really don't care anymore. Yeah it sucks to lose Dre to a rival (maybe) because of the jackassery of a coach but at the same time I thought it was jackassery to for Kubiak to keep Schaub here with no competition as long as he did.

Polar extremes are Kubiak and O'Brien. It'll be interesting to see how fans handle seeing this kind of coach.

What's nonsensical about it? Look at any Patriot team since 2007 - the WR2 is afterthought, and this team has (correctly) put all its eggs in DeAndre Hopkins' basket.

They *were* honest. This offense is going to move to a WR1, TE/TE2, RB-based passing attack. WR 2 is not, by design, going to see many passes. When he rejected that role, they parted ways. I don't understand why this seemingly simple transaction is befuddling fans. You don't ask a guy to take a paycut to, essentially, do the same amount work as he did the year before. *That's* insulting. They logically positioned the eventual pay cut an accurate reflection of the role.

    1. So you'd rather give those passes to Graham/CJ? I would agree with you if they approached Andre AFTER they had signed or drafted TEs or slot WRs who would have taken those catches from him.

You can't look at it like that; it'll drive you crazy. This is all boxes-and-wires right now, a system that still needs to be built.

ETA: And, we have no idea what, if any, moves BOB might have had in mind at TE. But one thing is sure, he wasn't getting anybody as long as AJ and his $10.5MM salary was still on the books.

And I'm sure it drove AJ crazy. They had to expect that.
