Is it a requirement that if Beverley plays decent defense against Lillard that it's OK for him to shoot brick after brick after brick from downtown?
Because Pablo had one subpar game and hasn't been lights out from three. And because this is a way for McHale to tell Morey, "I asked for a Gogi and you gave me a middle-aged retread; you can get the player but it doesn't mean I have to play him." Oh, wait: were you being rhetorical?
seems as if you basically believe PB can't basically do no wrong and that all the issues are on the other players. People around here do acknowledge problems with other players on the team but judging from your history of comments concerning PB, he's never to blame.
I hate to be pessimistic, but last night's game against the Blazers reinforces my belief that the Rockets can't go far in the playoffs with Bev and Terry running the offense when Harden sits or is playing passively. Facilitating the offense is neither of these player's strengths, yet they continue to both try and play that role which inevitably leads to turnovers, poor shot selection, and lost momentum. I think that once the playoffs start, these problems will bite us as defenses tighten up, mistakes are magnified, and every possession counts. Now, I'm sure gettting Dwight back will help in the rebound department (although not so much in the FT dep't - btw, someone please remind me why we don't have a full-time FT coach given how much we rely on FT's and how poorly we shoot them), but that won't change the fact that we have a pg in Bev who can't pass and a sg in Terry who's not a very good pg, leaving the Rockets with a huge hole at the pg position that has yet to be addressed. IDK, maybe there's something I'm not seeing here, but it sure does seem like having a capable passer/distributor in the game makes a world of difference in how well the offense flows and the quality of looks/shots the team gets; right now the only players who can do that are Harden and Prigs (at least from what I've seen in the limited number of minutes Prigs has played). This team supposedly runs a read-and-react offense, yet everyone except for Harden is apparently illiterate.
As soon as his defense reappeared, his offense went right back on a milk carton. He's always been more of a 2 guard w/ no real PG instincts -- but given that fact, I'd like to see him give up the ball to Harden a little earlier. By the time we get back up the court, Bev is *just* getting the ball to Harden and the defense is already set. Hard to really capitalize on fast breaks / get easy looks that way. There was a possession last night where T. Jones had run the break and was wiiiiiiiiiiiiide open right under the basket, calling for the ball. Bev was on auto-pilot and just did his usual pass-to-Harden, which ultimately resulted in a brick of an ill-advised jumper from someone else (we missed so many last night that I can't even remember who). And yes, he HAS to make those open 3s (as does everyone else). Seems like we're back to this "everybody slump at the same time" crap -- hopefully they're getting it out of their systems before playoffs, because if we have 4-6 guys consistently missing wide open 3s and point blank layups in the postseason, Lord help us.
Your nitpicking. We had bigger problems than Bev last night. Robin Lopez KILLED us on the boards. We missed WAY too many free throws. We made WAY too many turnovers, and whoever Dmo was guarding went crazy. Harden also didn't show up in the 2nd half. Beverley's offense, on a night we're he shutdown a Lmao. Allstar game? The same game Kobe was supposed to start in? Who votes these guys in again
i thought the same thing when i saw this play. it was an easy lob to the basket area yet he couldn't even do that. Jones sprinted from the other side to get in that position as well.
yeah the all star game. dont worry about the starting 5. you do realize the coaches pick the reserves lol or this might be new to you. and he wasn't even an initial pick by the coaches. So again, superstar right? NBA disagrees with me yes
If anyone watches Bev shoot in pregame, it looks like a high school kid shooting threes. He shoots about 50 percent in pre game. Its BADDDDD!
Agree 100% with this. I love Bev but man this dude is struggling big time. I really hope he snaps out of it come playoff time, but in games like this I think McHale should've let Prigioni get some minutes. Yes you sacrafice some defense but the guy has showed he has some play making skills. He's played very well with the second unit in my opinion. This was a very frustrating loss. Lets hope we can avoid another 2 game skid and bounce back tonight!
I don't think Lillard is a superstar by any means, but to pretend he isn't that great of a player just to discredit Bev's defense is silly.
Clearly, nonexistent. I was hoping that the All-Star break skills challenge W would give him a shot in the arm but it's done the complete opposite. I don't understand the hesitation. If he did that against the Clippers we would have been as good as dead for the umpteenth straight time versus them. Maybe the monstars sapped his talent. He needs help!
We learned the secret in the Cavs game. Bev needs to get somebody pissed off, pissed off dude responds, then Bev goes to work.
It's really rather simple - we have to watch a couple of more months of Patrick Beverley as our starting point guard and then it's over.
Your opinion. Imo you're blinded (and alot of other ppl) by your unappreciation for defense & all the intanglibles that win playoff games
