Did Andre signed with the Colts already? I think the Pats aren't out of picture. They have money to spend, now Revis went to the Jets.
If I may... this right here is the root of our disagreement, and I would offer the foundation of your general unhappiness as a Texan fan. It's a wildly unrealistic expectation. Winning a Super Bowl is remarkably hard; it's why 41% of the league's teams have never won one. There are so many factors in play - match-ups, injuries, luck. Peyton Manning is arguably one of the 2 or 3 greatest QBs of all-time and it's likely he's going to end his career with as many rings as Trent Dilfer. But one more than Dan Marino, who would be in the same conversation with Manning. I say this sincerely: I think you, and others who have a similar "Super Bowl or bust" mentality, would enjoy the game much more if you adjusted your expectations. Mine are: make the playoffs, with an understanding that once they do make the postseason, anything can happen - good or bad. But at least my team is in contention. I wasn't satisfied with the way 2011 and 2012 ended; I didn't claim moral victories in '09 or '14 when the Texans got oh-so-close to making the playoffs. But you know what? I appreciated the ride; those four years beat the heck out of playing out the string on a 2-14 campaign. I just don’t understand why people follow a team they seem to objectively dislike. Or why they have no curiosity to expand their experience or broaden their insight. Everything is doom and gloom: free agency is a disappointment, the draft is a disappointment, the final roster is a disappointment, the losses are a disappointment and finally, too many of the wins are a disappointment, because of this or that – the goal post is always moving. No wonder you think I shoot rainbows and sunshine out of my rear end – fans like you are so universally negative, anyone not wallowing in the same vat of vitriol must sound like a team spokesperson. It’s not an exemplary organization; it’s made countless mistakes. But those mistakes are not any more egregious or frequent as the mistakes of most other organizations. The Texans are… normal.
Yes, winning the Superbowl is hard. Lots of things are hard. Nonetheless, it is the general goal of every team. Ownership should be replacing management as necessary towards achieving that goal. Rick Smith is still the GM of this team. That's laughable. But hey... I'm a reasonable guy.... make a conference championship game? make it to the superbowl? Teams that have not made it to the Superbowl = Lions, Browns, Jags and Texans. Yeah, yeah, Texans are the latest expansion team, yada, yada... we're in there with the Lions, Browns and Jags. The franchise is generally irrelevant in the sports world. A one of a kind player here, hosting a superbowl there, but general irrelevance. Again, I'm giving B'Ob time... I'm just pointing out that the path seems awfully familiar, and I'd be shocked if the team made it to the superbowl any time soon... I'd be very surprised if they make it to the AFC championship game any time soon... on the current course... gladly eat crow if I'm proven wrong.
We're fans of teams and players of that team. When a player is no longer on the team I root for, I really don't care what they do. Why should I want other fans to be happy when my own team has never won anything?
according to sources Honestly I wouldn't mind if the Jets got both Fitzpatrick and Hoyer. Let them battle it out there and let the Texans draft competition for Mallet.
I don't know. Maybe you have a heart and you're not so one-dimensional. Believe it or not, it's okay to like something besides the Texans in the NFL. Andre Johnson was a great player who stuck with a franchise that had two 2-14 seasons that were spaced out like 8 years. He was a mature superstar who usually came through for us. In a time marred by NFL players committing crimes like murder, domestic violence, etc, Andre was an actual upstanding citizen who cared about the fans and cared about the city. He has had a great career, and he wants to win a ring by the end of it. Can I blame him? I'm not going to follow him game by game or anything like that, but I hope he gets a ring at some point, because he deserves it.
The entire city of Houston and Houston fans want an NFL championship worse than Andre Johnson. We're talking generations of NFL suffering here!!! This city will explode when it finally wins an NFL championship!!!
I disagree on quite a few points here..the big one being that it ignores the context of being a Houston sports fan, generally...but it's really well written, as usual. Nice post.
That's fine. But don't sarcastically call someone a "fan" if they're not hobbing on AJ's knob when he's suiting up for another team.
