Even though it's far from over, are you happy with the Texans off-season so far? A lot of dominoes have fallen today, and we haven't even been close to anything of value yet (outside of re-upping our own guys). I'm trying to stay level-headed, and I'm not going to jump the gun and judge the off-season until it's over, but you have to admit the Colts have killed it so far.
You don't win championships in March. Ask Tampa Bay about their 2014 offseason... or Philly about the dream team offseason. It never ends well, I wouldn't get upset about this at all. We are rebuilding this roster the right way.
What did people think we were going to do? We need a receiver really bad but after that we are pretty much the same 9-7 team. As for the Colts, as someone said, they are all in for next season. Team is going to get broken up after one year. I am not thrilled with the team or lack of action but Rick Smith is still our GM. As long as that is true, I am just happy being competitive.
Look at the past championship teams. Pretty much none of them were put together through FA. Build through the draft, fill short term needs with FAs. Pretty simple.
Let JJo go, cut Fitz, cut Graham... That'll save 14 million dollars in cap space. Then trade for Brees. I dont care if he is 36. We will be legitimate championship contenders for the next 2-3 years.
I agree. At some point the Texans have to go for it. This isn't likely to happen, but if the Texans wouldn't give up substantial picks for him, that's a move they should go for. It's tiresome watching the Texans duck and dive the QB position.
Do we have 26 and a half million sitting around for Brees? (in addition to other contracts and the rookies....)
We wouldnt need that much cap space...just like if we traded Andre, he wouldnt count 16 million against the other team's cap...he'd count for 10. It looks like we would need 18 million in cap for Brees. Someone can correct me if Im wrong. In other words, if we make the moves I mentioned, we can have Brees with enough money to sign a couple back up position players and have enough for the draft pool.
