How far behind the texans are and will continue to be. 5 years later we will be talking about the same things we are talking about now. Satisfied-Enough Fans filling up the seats every Sunday is this organizations number one goal among all others.

Schools? We don't care about schools here in Texas!

Something tells me there's a better than 0% chance you hit your head really hard after the 2013 season and were in a coma last year...

There are two elite QBs in the AFC (Brady and Luck), three if Peyton bounces back (iffy, given his age, and his partnership with Kubiak will be interesting). All the other teams - including the 9-7 Texans - are a notch below. You're acting like the Texans are 3-13 every year...

They just went 9-7 after the bottom dropping out in a 2-14 2013 season. And 5 years ago, you were about to go through the best "stretch" of football this franchise has seen.

People were definitely NOT talking about the "same" things last off-season as there were a significant more number of unknowns (most of all being whether or not the new coaching staff could not only get good at the job, but quickly undo some of the previous regime's mistakes).

Every regime change needs to be accompanied with a "reset" on what fans expect this team to do going forward... this is year 2 of the BOB era, and should go a long way to determining how far away they really are from contending.

They're just really trying to ensure they don't get in trouble with the NFL for "agreeing on parameters" during the negotiating period.

Wait until the schedule comes out it won't be like last years. The nfl has better film on the Bill Obrien lead Texans too. I would not be excited over last year's Mediocre record with that weak schedule.

Fortunately, the new CBA has a strong cap floor too, so the variation of success amongst teams will mostly come from 1) the GM allocating the proper resources to right players, 2) coaching, 3) players living up to expectations (tied to 1), 4) schedule, and 5) luck.

They've sort of removed the variation in spending. IIRC, teams can spend above the cap floor and still be penalized if they don't spend like 95% of the salaries of all teams, so that past players will retroactively get pay raises to meet that standard. I'm sure I got the details wrong, but something like that is happening to the Skins now, even after not counting the penalty hit for the Haynesworth deal.

Essentially, the way the new CBA was the negotiated, all teams have to spend their money. In the past, teams could use accounting tricks and unlikely to be achieved bonuses (like a $10M bonus to the kicker's contract if he leads the teams in tackles) to meet spending standards. Now, it's all about real dollars spent.

So if you're in the "blame the owner camp," then that argument won't hold from here on out. Now, you can use it still in the NBA due to the "luxury tax" dilemma, but in the NFL, every team will be spending about the same.

SMH, we already know who the Texans are playing

    HOME

    Indianapolis
    Jacksonville
    Tennessee
    New England
    New York Jets
    Kansas City
    New Orleans
    Tampa Bay

    AWAY

    Indianapolis
    Jacksonville
    Tennessee
    Miami
    Buffalo
    Cincinnati
    Atlanta
    Carolina

Once again it's one of the easiest schedules in the NFL.

Schedule is already out... its actually EASIER than last years (and if you want next year's schedule, or the year after that... or the YEAR AFTER THAT... I can give you 14/16 games every year for the next 10 years).

And as far as "film" being on the Texans, take solace in knowing that we have a coaching staff that preaches versatility and not being too predictable. Hell, they changed the offensive schemes mid-season which had a noticeable effect on production.

Lol @ Watt deserves better. That is until he is a step slower then he is a 75 year old washed up DE.

Yes, in the end JJ Watt will be tossed on the scrap heap just like literally every player and I'm sure we'll have overly emotional fans go nuts then too. I'm not sure how old you are, but if you are super young, you might as well get used to this because you'll see it happen over and over again, it's how sports work. If you aren't super young....I don't know why you seemingly haven't learned this yet, but you still might as well get used to it because it'll never change.

That's what I'm thinking though it's way too soon to tell. I could see an outside shot at 10-12 if things happen to fall right.

    1) Fans demand players show loyalty by taking hometown discounts
    2) Fans crush players and use words like selfish when they leave for more money
    3) Fans say "it's just business" when players get cut traded
    4) Fans gets mad that players don't kiss their feet

I love it when the true depth of some of these posters' insight is fully revealed. Sure, guy who didn't know how the NFL scheduling worked, even though it's been in place literally 13 years - tell us what the Texans are doing wrong! There can't be a more credible source...

No way to get above 10 unless Mallet does something that I know neither one of us expect to happen. He's a big unknown though, so the possibility is at least there.

Yes, poor JJ Watt, playing for all those awful 10-, 12- and 9-win teams...... So unfair.
