No chance, we don't have that kind of coin left.

It depends on you look at their offseason.

    1. They appear poised to add Smith who is better than any of their current receivers and a legit deep threat for Kap.
    2. They get younger and cheaper at RB.
    3. Patrick Willis and Justin Smith retiring now helps them focus their draft on defense and frees up some capspace (assuming that if you retire, there is no dead money on the cap)

That's a super optimistic way of looking at it, they still have no QB, their head coach is now a college coach, and their defense has been destroyed. In the sense that your house collapsing is an opportunity to re-build it could be seen as a positive, but you're still homeless for the time being.

It all depends on how creative you got with his contract and what you are willing t eat in dead capspace in future seasons. If the Texans were a corner away from being legit contenders, then I say go for Revis but they aren't so the draft or 2nd tier free agents are better.

Speaking of 2nd tier, I have heard Jordan Cameron mentioned but isn't he one concussion away from having to call it a career?

After Mallett/Newton/Hoyer/Fitz stuff gets all figured out, we will have around 9 to 10 million in space. If we want to make any other signings other than depth, would need to cut/restructure Graham and Joseph.

Otherwise it will be all depth and draft class.

With Julius Thomas likely destroying his career by going to the Jags, I'd just stay put at the TE spot and focus on finding a slot guy. We already lost out on Cobb and Maclin so we need to see if we can get Torrey Smith or Brian Harline to fill that void in the slot

He could do like Lasean McCoy and agree to re-do his contract.

They should go after a guy like Brandon Spikes.

    ILB is much needed.

    Lofton also got released.

so how much remaining cap room do the Texans have after releasing AJ, adding Mallet, Hoyer and signing Jackson + Newton to big deals?

We in the $20 MM range ??

$10MM. Would be $18 if we cut Joseph (which looks unlikely), and $12.5 if we cut Graham.

Yes, my opinion backed up by his performances. If Kaepernick is your QB, you should be looking to find a new QB not much different than when Ryan Fitzpatrick is your QB.

    [Rant]

Oh Lord, please give me strength. I said I wasn't going to do it, but I did anyways. I go on Instagram and see the Texans post about resigning Kareem, and 90% of the comments are about how he is trash and how him a Newton were both stupid signings, and why did we not keep Andre and Myers. I'm sorry, but I can't recall a more idiotic fan base than ours. It's pretty sad. A majority of the people on this website ACTUALLY have good insight on Texans football, but we are apparently just the minority. The majority of the fan base is stupid. Plain and simple. Even Dallas's dreadful fan base I feel like has more common insight than our's, and that is beyond sad. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. This has always been a flash player/fairweather type of fan base. That's why Keenum was so revered here during that 2013 season. Those few plays he made instantly branded him a fan favorite, and being a Coog certainly helped. That's also why so many wanted Manziel, for that same flash. Oh well, I still tip my hat off to O'Brien and Smith. One of my major concerns was that they wouldn't make the tough decisions because of the fans, but they seem to have the best interests for the future of this football team, not just the present. They aren't letting the fans will run the team, and I applaud them for that.

No. Total cap hit for draft is around $5MM, so we really only have scraps left. There are some definite holes left on the roster, it makes much more financial sense to cut Joseph/Graham then to keep them.

Or maybe extend Joseph and lessen the cap hit.

    "We"?

The vast majority of fans don't eat, sleep, breathe the NFL and, as a result, have a very limited perspective. I'm sure a lof of the KJ/DN vitriol is years old; Jackson's, specificall,y is probably a lot of people who haven't heard or thought about him since 2010.
