Are we just going to ignore the fact that we still have no franchise QB?

You also said the same thing about Mallet... lets just presume that BOB will know better than anybody about which QB he wants, and has first-hand knowledge about all of them.

With no obvious franchise QB out there, I'd take a flyer on guys who've recently showed potential to be one. Cousins, Foles come to mind. Mallet should be the guy, but not if he's asking for starter money. I would love Foles in Houston ESPECIALLY if we get Maclin.

And we still don't know if Mallett is better or not. He had one good game and then an absolutely tragic game. If the one game is indicative of his ability then he certainly might end up better than Fitz, but it's hard to base anything on a sample of one.

He played the second game without a chest muscle.

Agreed... WE don't know... but you had said the same thing about how awful/terrible he was with "certainty" prior to his debut (with zero sample size to go off of). And given what we need out of a QB in this offense, and the obvious injury in that second game, I'd say Mallet at full strength has an increased chance of improving upon the QB position.

Lets just say that BOB is going to know more about these guys abilities/potential more than anybody else here... he knows far more about Mallet and Hoyer than he knew about Fitz prior to them signing him... and he definitely knows more than you regarding a players' true abilities and potential.

Are we sure that B'OB knows what he's doing?

I'm sure he knows more than some of the talent "evaluators" on a BBS.

Note why I said "sample of one".

He showed very little in the time we had seen him, there was no reason to think he'd be any good, there still isn't really.

Cutler, VY, Leinart, and Reggie are all available.

    Mario is not.

    Ironic.

Where and when did you see Ryan Mallet play regular season NFL football before last season?

Again, you have to entrust the guys that have seen these players every single day, in the film room, on the practice field, etc.... along with in game situations.

BOB has a ton of "sample size" to go off of and will base his decision on that first-hand knowledge.

There's no problem with having a concern, we all do. I just don't understand complaining about it without offering a solution (albeit theoretical).

The Texans have had bad luck. There is no other way to put it. All 3 times they've had the first pick, there has not been a qb worth taking. That's not managements fault, its Luck as in Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Big Ben....anyone.

I agreed with making that trade at the time, but what's the point in bringing it up now?

Crap!! The rockets should have traded sampson for jordan and had a dynasty!!! You can list so many hypotheticals that it doesn't even make sports fun anymore.

Just relax and let the chips fall where they may.

    Problem solved!

TEXANS LOCK RYAN MALLETT BACK INTO HOUSTON
    Mar 08, 2015 | 11:44 pm

The Houston Texans have re-signed free agent quarterback Ryan Mallett for the upcoming season. After pending negotiations and some talk between him and the New York Jets, the Texans are ready to move forward with Mallett on their quarterback depth chart.

Mallett looks like the odds on favorite to be the starting quarterback week one, but that will be sorted out in training camp. Appearing in three games with two starts, throwing for 400 yards for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Mallett is banking on himself to put together a solid season to have the Texans move with him as the quarterback of the future.

The past relationship with Bill O’Brien and George Godsey, plus his knowledge of the offensive system proved to be too good for Mallett to leave. The Texans traded for Mallett prior to the opening of the season for a conditional 7th round draft pick in 2016 NFL Draft.

BRIAN HOYER WILL SIGN WITH THE TEXANS
    Mar 09, 2015 | 12:45 am

To add to the Houston Texans free agent acquisitions, Brian Hoyer will also be added to the quarterback depth chart. This reunites Hoyer with his quarterback coach and offensive coordinator when he was with the New England Patriots, Bill O’Brien. He will also be rejoining Ryan Mallett, who was in the same quarterback room as Hoyer while both were in New England in 2011.

For the past two seasons, Hoyer led the Cleveland Browns to a 10-6 overall record, and in 2014 he threw for 3,326 yards with 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

The arrival of Hoyer will put the Texans in a quarterback competition during training camp with Mallett likely to get the starting nod in week one.

The deal will not be completed until the March 10th deadline opens up marking the new league year.

Sweeeet! Malletts job to lose in camp. Our qb situation looks so much better now. The way the qb's were dropping off like flies last year do you consider keeping Fitz?
