putting aside whether the policy should exist for sincere people, it clearly is ripe for abuse by creeps, and female patrons need to be made aware

might be better than the reverse: forcing unconventional and unapproved "medical treatment" called gender conversion therapy on children (known in some countries as child abuse) and living with the fact that it happens every day in America, and has caused untold deaths.

living with medical practitioners who refuse to serve and a system that hates at every turn.

...did I interrupt your trivializing of the civil rights situation around transsexuals as a "bathroom choice" matter?

    good.

so file a letter to planet fitness and don't be a creep. maybe discourage creeping by being an anti-creep. not sure what there is to debate here other than a business's shoddy record at enforcing arbitrary rules that you'd support in principle by their freedom to do whatever the f**k business wants.

Do you realize that not all transgender people want to undergo surgery? Has that crossed your mind at all?

Did you realize that I said it might be better than being refused medical treatment or being forced to undergo "medical treatment" but that I never said it was right that transgender people were being forced to do something they don't want.

The difference being that one country is offering approved medical treatment with financial assistance (and being a dick about it) while the other is allowing the 21st century equivalent of bloodletting--that is if bloodletting led to suicides. oh and carrying an entrenched system of hate that leads to brutal murders, the death of youths in the most vulnerable phase of their life, and economic/social impoverishment for those who choose to be different.

All six of those trans women highlighted for being murdered for their identity were under the age of 30.

I didn't say the us was perfect, but you are free to have a sex change here.

In Iran you are forced into it so that they don't have a "homosexual problem."

And then if you change into a woman, goodbye to a bunch of your rights

conjuncture countered by quotes you copy + pasted from an Iranian cleric who CLEARLY said he believes transsexualism should be a human right. I don't know how clear he could have been, but anyways--

I can get why you'd be uncomfortable with the fact that a regressive regime with a POS record on human rights might make America look regressive on this topic. What are you going to do with that discomfort is the real interesting question

drop the Iran comparison for a second. are you happy with the situation for trans rights in America? is it merely "imperfect"?

not all debates are legal (the left likes to mandate/ban all behavior, but that need not be the case here)

A libertarian complaining about what a business is doing. If it hurts planet fitness's bottom line I am sure they will change their policies. We shall see what happens.

Gender specific bathrooms and locker rooms are more of a Western social construct and budgetary luxury than any kind of hygenic or safety proscription; as transgenders identify, organize and assert their equality legally and politically we'll probably have to start accepting them socially in scenarios like this. But it will probably take two or three generations of LGBTQ tolerant kids, and come as close to provoking reactionary violence as the Civil Rights movement.

How is allowing transgender men into the women's locker room any different than allowing lesbians in there? At least most transgender men aren't sexually aroused by naked women.

Yeah, let's change the narrative, strawman the hell out of it and the demonize a whole group of people and claim racism even though there is zero relevance to the topic... Would you like to some how work in the Crusades, slavery or perhaps how the US government was responsible for the crack epidemic? Hell if you really are feeling it you could go the vaccination route or even alien anal probing.

A transgender man is someone who went from female to male.

    This is a transgender woman.

And transgender can have any sexual orientation, so it doesn't really say anything about who they are aroused by

Really you think with the stigma attached to being trans that men would bother with pretending to be women just so they could look at naked women? Not to mention with the easy prevalence of online p*rn where you could look at as many naked women as you want and frankly far more attractive than the average member of Planet Fitness.

If the policy hadn't been known before it certainly is known now.

On a related point I agree that they should make the policy known but this goes to something that was brought up when the GOP politician stated that he would have no problem with not requiring restaurants to require their employees to wash their hands after using the restrooms as long as they informed their patrons. How should they be required to inform their patrons. Where should the signs be located? What size font should they use, and etc..?

I think things like this should be noted when someone joins in the membership contract but other than that I don't think this is something that requires constant information.

This is a tough one for me to wrap my mind around and fully understand. I personally don't care who's in the locker room or restroom while I'm in there. But I can easily understand why others would. Complicated times...

Wow... the dumb things people get freaked out about. I think Planet Fitness should solve the "problem" altogether by converting all the lockerroom/shower area into more workout area. People can either sweat/stink or clean up at home. And I won't have to wait for machines in busy times. And that way that woman only has to worry about the "prevert" she lives with.

Seriously... a woman worried that a transgendered person was in the lockerroom? Doesn't she have as much to worry about a lesbian with the raging hots for her? Or a straight woman who was curious? What about the aerobics instructor... I hear they are really mostly gay women anyway... Or the guy peeping through the hole in the wall.

    Sheesh...
