NBA teams need at least two solid bigs at all times in an NBA game. Dwight Howard's health is in question now, and will likely see a limit in his minutes moving forward. Why in the world there would still be this STUPID competition where we pick favorites is beyond me. THE ROCKETS NEED BOTH. Especially in the future if/when we have to let Josh Smith walk, and Dwight needs to miss significant regular season games. I think these next couple weeks will be very important to not just get these two players chemistry, but find a way to get these two guys to defend the paint at a reasonable rate. That's really been their weak spot in the past because they were both young and offensive minded. They need to get better in that area, but if they can then we will have a young core of bigs this team can continue to grow with, and even survive beyond Dwight if it comes to that.
This argument had merit at one point. Jones was playing regular minutes and D-mo was riding the pine. But now both guys are getting minutes, and we need both of them. There is no need to chose between them.
Indeed Dobro. Both of these players have grown tremendously over their short nba careers. This is a good thing for the Rockets going forward. Great post as usual bro.
Today's SportsNation chat with Kevin Pelton: [rQUOTEr]Mateo (Houston) Who do you see as having a higher ceiling going forward, Terrence Jones or Donatas Motiejunas? Both have blossomed this year with the Rockets, but their games are very different. Seems as though they'd have a tough time hanging on to both long term. Kevin Pelton (3:47 PM) Jones has more star potential in my opinion, but I could see Motiejunas being more valuable to the Rockets because of his ability to play either frontcourt spot and complement a variety of different types of players.[/rQUOTEr]
both.. listen DMo was huge part for first part of season and Rox record, and still he playing at 5 which is hard position, so calm down.. front court future is bright
Tell us something we don't know Kevin. I think DMo has really plateaued or dare I say it, even regressed. McHale has stated DMo is tired and I believe it. We really miss Howard and it's very obvious. With a healthy Howard, Jones, DMo, and Smith, we're very very deep and tough up front. But them all being healthy is very unlikely given our past.
I really think that tjones coming back with added upper body strength is a game changer. He no longer gets backed down by everyonr.
Honestly, I think it's obvious what's going on with Dmo. He's exhausted. He's young but he's also not use to playing this much, and since he played in the world championship, he hasn't had a rest in a while. I wish we can afford to rest him and Harden at some point before the playoffs.
fwiw, it's usually the lower body that helps give one ground in the post. but his size has definitely elevated his play offensively. he finishes with contact more frequently.
Add to that the fact that he's playing out of position at the 5 getting beat up on by bigger guys and you have a perfect storm for his play falling off.
Dmo has definitely regressed since Howard has been injured. Thank GOD TJones is here to pick up the slack!
This is the homestretch of the season. This is the point where players make their reputation and their money. No excuses. DMo has got to suck it up and find a way to compete, or else ...
TJones also plays against those 5s and comes off blocking shots and making point. Vs. MEM, he was the lone big and he still found a way to contribute.
Yes of course 10 or 20 seconds of playing the 5 every once in a while is obviously the same as starting at the 5 and playing it every minute you are on the court. Thank you for adding that.
