Are we just going to ignore the fact that we still have no franchise QB?

No surprise people are patient. Dude was supposed to be the QB whisperer, passed up on Teddy who couldve been molded and who emerged last year. Take an injury plagued player number, and draft a trash QB in the 4th round, yeah Bills the guy.

Depending on the skin tone of the coach, fans will either make excuses and rationalize dumb decisions or lack thereof, or they will call for the coach's head.

Oh no! The Texans passed on Alex Smith 2.0! The horror.

Seattle has Lynch who can move the chains even with a garbage offensive line.
They have a quarterback who can run.
And they also have/had a dominant defense.

That's 3 things the Texans don't have but I see nothing wrong with shooting for the moon.

Arian Foster moves the chains just fine.

It's true we don't have a game manager QB who doubles as a RB, but that's not really key to their success

The Texans aren't far away from having a dominant defense.

I'm not ignoring the fact that we don't have a franchise QB... I just think we should be fair and give O'Brien a chance with Mallet and or Savage before we go bat shyt crazy.

Seattle had Lynch and a great defense before they got Russell and wasn't even a .500 team... Lol.

I won't debate rather or not Russell is an elite quarterback but there is absolutely no debating the fact that he's a game changer at that position and Seattle has two super bowl appearances to prove that.

Come on guys. We all know QBs are overrated. Two words: Trent. Dilfer.

    Build a Monster D.

I think Mallet will be better than him. That's at least 2 super bowls in the bag!!!

Still think Mallet will fill the bill, but I do not want to see Fizzle ever again.

Seems like the common response is that no one has ignored it.
    And that's probably true.

So the better question is what do people think can be done about it?

    I mean a serious plan?
Just wait and hope Mallet delivers?
Draft one next year? And if so, why?
Or draft another one this year... but which round, when?

My point is it seems like most are advocating filling other positions with this years draft... and that's ok, but if you recognize that QB is the most important position and the Texans are horrible there... then what is the plan?

The OP's frustration probably isn't that no one has really ignored it...

BUT that there is very little evidence that would point to the situation changing anytime soon.

Prior to his 2 games last year he started a total of 0 games in 3 years. There was no past production that would lead anybody to believe he was a capable player.

I'm not saying that he can't turn into a legit starter. I hope he does.

This is a good question. One of the best trades in franchise history was getting Schaub for two 2nd rounders. While there's more data on him this year, Cousins would have been a similar target to stab for last year.

I'd like to see us trade up and get Mariota if he drops down to 5 or 6. We have a lot of cap space to fill out the roster holes with mid-tier free agents.

I just don't see any aggression when it comes to seeking out QB talent.

I have a good friend that was screaming for Mack and Teddy. I still don't know how Rick Smith has a job.

Ideally we draft our franchise QB and unfortunately last year we were BPA'd into Clowney. The NFL rookie scales make productive young quarterbacks invaluable assets.

Obviously we are giving Mallett a chance at running the show. It sucks we only got 1 full game out of him (I won't count the second game since he was hurt). Sucks even more that we didn't get to see what Savage could do.

You're limited to the options available. Do what you can with the hand you're dealt or waste your resources on lost causes like half the other teams in the league. It's not our fault there isn't a reasonable option available for us invest heavily in. The situation shouldn't change until someone becomes available that actually makes sense.

They were wrong with Teddy... very wrong. Plenty of coaches have also gotten themselves fired for latching onto mediocre QBs.

Even in hindsight Alex Smith 2.0 wasn't worth the top pick in the draft. Not even close. It's weird that you talk about coaches getting fired for latching onto mediocre QB's yet are whining about a mediocre QB the Texans didn't pick.

Russel Wilson is a top 10 QB, 26 years old, and a legitimate dual threat. He's leap years ahead of anything our franchise has ever seen.
