I remember watching him play in the summer league and he was a good passer but didn't have a good jumpshot. If only he wasn't afraid of flying

I hope we all Learned a valuable lesson from Royce White. Months before we picked him there were already Clutchfans posting personal experiences or anecdotes from college about how he was a narcissistic *******, how everyone in his family only served to enable his piss poor attitude.

The lesson here is you do your homework on a kid's background. And by all means if Clutchfans is already catching wind of red flags like this, then it sure as hell can't be too hard to find out about it.

 

Outside of Rockets fans, 99% of people wouldn't even recognize the name.

 

He got a lot of national coverage. From his ridiculous tweets to a Real Sports interview, and print features on him.

And his goal in all of that was to make the Rockets front office look as bad as possible.

 

Haven't lost any respect for him. I can sympathize with the guy because I can tell he was not prepared mentally or physically to be an NBA player, and he had an anxiety problem on top of that. What he tried to do was brave, and bravery is stupid sometimes. I don't put it past him to become a solid NBA player. He certainly has ball handling skill and court vision that less than 1% of people his height have in addition to projecting to be a very strong player with excellent rebounding. It's not a mystery why we picked him.

Having said that, there's no one on this roster I would let go of to give him a chance. We're too good to take that big a risk right now. Still, I hope someone does and he turns his life/career around. I don't feel the need to hate someone just because they didn't pan out for my favorite team as a draft pick. We knew the risk we were taking when we picked him - both anxiety issues AND character issues - so the fact that things ended up the way they did with a 21 year old kid doesn't make me angry. Just makes me wish it ended differently.

Good luck to him, though he's probably a few failures away from turning anything around IMO.
