The thing about being a streaky 3 point shooter is that your really hot games don't make the really cold games go away. If Canaan had any real basketball talent outside of shooting 3's he'd still be with the team. Hell he'd probably be starting.
what does Terry provide besides 3pt shooting? Don't say leadership because he can do that from the bench.....
He's a better defender than Canaan and he's experienced enough to make a few vet plays per game. Maybe Canaan will one day become a short version of Terry, but he's not that today.
In my opinion, while not a great defender, Canaan is a better defender than Terry. Terry wasn't a good defender when he was young. He no longer has the quicks to stay with anybody. Canaan has quick feet and hands. I'd take him over JET defensively as well as offensively.

people are forgetting Canaan had good games with us. Those 4 games he started when PatB was injured he was almost playing better than Bev
The thing with canaan is he is another one of those players that just has blinders on. He is not a bad player but he is just a volume shooting guard in a pg body and those comes out of the draft all the time. We need someone who can distribute and play defence and shoot. I really am rooting for nick johnson to step up his game and improve his shot.if he can do that he can be that great spark off the bench and provide us with the pg we have been lacking.
I think you're argument is only taking into consideration on ball defense and leaving out the finer points. Defense has a lot to do with proper position, making the correct rotations, making the right defensive play on the pick n' roll, smart double teaming, etc.. Despite his lack of lateral quickness, JET understands these concepts while Canaan, at this point in his career looks completely lost.
Problem is that our coach is too much old school. He never gives young players enough chance to develop as he insists on keeping short rotations. He's is mild version of Thibs who rides his vets into the ground.
We lost the game anyways. So if he goes 0 - 5 it don't mean anything. But he just lit up OKC for 31 on 16 shots. If he had only taken half those shots against ATL and MEM, we win.
someone thought Lowery, Dragic are just role players. And Cannan ,Covngtion ,& Whiteside are not good enough to Step on the court .
