the time for cutting overpaid players is this season while we don't have a QB for certain to build around

this is smart, the NFL is not place for nostalgia or sentiment

Maybe Bob's plan includes adding on a good set of players in free agency but not going crazy, having another ok season, and finding that star quarterback next year.

I will watch and hope Mallet proves me wrong, but I have a hard time believing the team will make it any farther then they've already been until they seriously upgrade the QB position.

By all means, talking about this offseason's moves, etc. is still fun and should be done... but after Carr, Schaub, Rosencopter, Yates, Keenum, Fitz, Mallet, Savage... it's disheartening to see they haven't done better... a lot better... there.

Seahawks would be a good place for him to go.

I disagree, they don't have a QB and their #1 priority will be trying to replace Marshawn Lynch given that they are a team that wins with the running game and defense, not with passing the ball. In fact, if they had stuck to what they were good at and run the ball, they'd currently be the SB champions. Instead, they went to Russell Wilson and the Pats won.

They don't have a QB? Really? Dude made Chris Matthews look like an all-pro. That last play was not Wilson's fault. Coach called the play and the CB fought the ball out of the receiver's hands.

Now now the Seahawks have a qb, just not an elite qb but serviceable in that offense kinda like what we will have in Mallett but with a much stronger arm.

Come on now, you can't sit there and tell me Russell Wilson is not a good QB. He's top 10 easily and albeit with a great running game and defense he's been to two Super Bowls. Not many QBs can say that. And if you think he's not leaps and bounds better than what we put out there at QB, come on bobby.

Just ignore bobby. Dude hates QBs and has no credibility whatsoever when talking about them.

If the Texans had Russell Wilson I'm sure Dre would gladly take a "reduced role" to have a shot at a deep playoff run.

He's really good at handing the ball off, he's got a strong arm, and he's a pretty solid RB. That's about all you can say about him though. If you plan on running a passing based offense with him, you're doomed.

Why are some Texans fans calling for Rick Smith's head? Like jeez, I know that Chris was a solid player for us, but the guy was costing us financially and his play also somewhat warranted the cut. I swear this is the last time I browse a Texans comment section on Facebook or Instagram. It's just pure stupidity. The people are on there complaining about how this move ruins our "chances of making the playoffs", and "Why is the team acting like we are in rebuilding mode?" No. Just No.

I have not been a big Rick Smith supporter, but this time I'm gonna put on my armor and shield and brave through the stupidity. Even though it was probably though for them to release both Chris and Andre, for the future sake of the football team, they cut all emotional ties with them in order for the team as a whole to progressively get better, and I respect them for that. It's hard to make those tough cuts, and sometimes the weak franchises don't wan't to do it. It is however definitely going to be interesting seeing what they do with this space that we have currently, but I think the priority should be resigning Kareem and Mallet. If they could do that, I would be pretty satisfied with this offseason.

The plan is to find a franchise QB whenever the opportunity presents itself. It's not like there are a lot of them or that they're easy to find. If they can find one this year (not likely), they'll try to get one now. If it's next year or the year after, so be it. It's not like there's a franchise guy out there right now and they're opting to pass on him.

Really? You think the Texans would spend $20+ Million on Ryan Mallett?

True... But not that I'm advocating tanking, or even commenting on the hit or miss nature at the top of the draft with QBs - just like everywhere else...

... BUT you have to be in a position to get your HOF QB once you find him.

I just abhore 9-7 or 10-6 seasons with playoffs or near playoffs but no chance in hell of doing anything meaningful.

Sure 2-6 win seasons get tiring too... But in today's NFL those should never last long.

So maybe I am advocating tanking?!?!? Seems like it should work much better in the NFL than anywhere else. You know he general strength of the QB class ahead of time. You can get your cap in order simultaneously. Then hit that top top QB and sign a bunch of quality players at once.

There will likely be only two true "franchise" QB's at the top of drafts over the last 20 years... Manning and Luck.

The Staffords, Newtons, Elis, Palmers, and Vicks have been inconsistent and hit/miss over the years... and then there's the busts.

The top of the draft future HOF QB is extremely rare.
