I'd like to note that I did not see this coming (Chris Myers) so I expect Andre Johnson and Johnathan Joseph to be cut as well. Savings after the cuts: Andre Johnson- $8,825,000 Chris Myers- $6,000,000 Johnathan Joseph- $8,500,000 These three cuts frees up $23,325,000. The Texans should have more than $37,000,000 in cap space. Setting aside a blind estimate of $5,000,000 in draft picks and a bunch of cap space in the upcoming 2016 season, the Texans SHOULD be major players in the upcoming free agency period. McCourty and Flowers should be high on the Texans list.
Ben Jones finally moves to center(thats what he was drafted for) Wonder how healthy Quessenberry will be, could become a backup swing tackle or guard. Future O-line should end up being Brown, Xavier, Jones, Brooks, Newton(if re-signed) Sign Mallet to a 3 year contract Hopefully re-sign KJack and Newton. Should have the money to do it now. Probably sign a vet WR in free agency. I could see us with a focus to draft heavy on the defensive side. D-line and linebackers. Probably need a quality safety if Lewis doesn't come back. I thing Garret Graham should be the next one released. He was a nothing on offense last year
If he gets anything above a one year deal for 1.5 million im with you...he should be a vet minimum guy at this point.
That would save another 3.5 mil and it would make sense if BOB is really trying to snag Julius Thomas.
Julius Thomas would be a stupid signing if it's for big money...he's a freak but he is an injury prone freak.
Im sure O'B is smarter than that, O'B probably told Rick Smith I got this you just sit there and look pretty and take the credit.
I wouldn't imagine it would be for TOO much money, but he'd command a sizable contract because of his physical tools and age. I'd like going forward with Fiedorowicz, Thomas, and Griffin at TE.
I hope anyone they sign drops a "just trying to be a good teammate" at their press conference to see if we can get a BO'B reaction in real time!!
Yea I feel like BOB can create something with the TE's the team has right now...I would hate for them to use cap space on a FA.
That's a solid POV, but if you think Thomas can be a special type of player and potentially hook up the Texans with a Gronk and Hernandez (minus the murder) look then it's worth it.
He didn't create anything with them last year but you expect that to suddenly change? OB likes TE's. They're a big part of his offense and we got almost no production out of ours last season. We have to get better at that position and I highly doubt that's going to happen just standing pat.
Well CJ Fiedorowicz was a rookie, and rarely do rookie TE's perform well, we should get a significant increase in offense this year if it's going to happen....that said, I don't expect much from Griffin other than being a solid 3rd string TE so we do need another TE. If we get it in the draft, we'll have to deal with Fiedorowicz and Griffin being our #1 and #2 and that could be bad.
Wonder if Myers would consider pulling a Vonta Leach and come back on the cheap if the market isn't great for him.
Right, because there's a truckload of evidence to support that. Oh wait.....our TEs collectively had the worst year of probably any TE tandem in the NFL last season.
Hopefully BOB doesn't overstep his bounds too much... we went 9-7 last year and had some winnable games...I hope he really knows what he's doing.
People who are getting upset about these cuts do not understand the business. The whole Kubiak good ole boy brigade is the wrong way to run a franchise, loyalty doesn't win you anything. Good business decisions help you progress forward rather than treading water.
Fido had 4 catches last year. FOUR! That's not the product of just being a rookie. There's no way you can count on him suddenly giving you the type of receiving production you need out of a TE. It'd be one thing if he could at least be a Joel Dreessen type who was a very good blocker and gave you maybe 30 catches as a #2 TE, but he hasn't even shown that kind of potential yet.
