Judo, that's not why the guy made the speech. There's an Israeli election in 2 weeks. That's why he gave the speech, in my humble opinion, and he was very willing to damage relations with the United States to help himself get re-elected.
I agree with this assessment. He can said everything he said in private and likely have done so already. And if he's not happy with the US response, he can certainly have his points get across without a direct attack on the US positions. His speech wasn't toward the US government, it was toward the public - his public to influence the election he's going through. He gambled and likely think he can repair the damage later after he win, if he does win. Win now at all costs, and think about repercussion later.
Yes. Good point. That said again I don't fault him for making the speech for that reason either. The bigger issue is for Boehner to make the invitation and inject US partisan politics into it. Just to be clear I don't think Boehner committed treason but this has made it harder to find a way to practically address this issue. So much for politics stops at the water's edge.
I'm sorry, but am I missing something? Why are people talking about war or conflict with Iran? Or even between Israel and Iran? The situation is even remotely close to that, correct?

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/former-mossad-chief-netanyahu-lied-to-congress Former Mossad Chief: Netanyahu Lied to Congress JERUSALEM (AP) — Before a major anti-Netanayhu rally today in Tel Aviv, former chief of Israel's Mossad spy agency on Friday rejected claims made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his contentious address to Congress about Iran's nuclear program. Dagan served as Mossad chief until January 1st, 2011. In an interview aired on Channel 2 TV, Meir Dagan denied Netanyahu's claim that the deal under negotiation with world powers would allow Iran to create a nuclear weapon within a year or less. "The time is longer than what he describes," Dagan said. Dagan also rejected Netanyahu's assertion that Iran's intercontinental ballistic missile program could allow it to deliver a nuclear arsenal to "every part of the United States." "The missiles cannot reach the U.S.," Dagan said. When asked if Netanyahu does not know that, Dagan replied: "He knows. So what?" Channel 2 showed Dagan making the comments as he watched Netanyahu's televised speech to Congress. When Netanyahu said that "the Jewish people can defend ourselves," Dagan said: "That is a threat of attack." Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz, of Netanyahu's Likud Party, told Channel 2 that he rejected many of Dagan'sassertions. Dagan has been a fierce critic of Netanyahu's approach to Iran, emerging as a key opponent of a potential Israeli military attack against its nuclear facilities. He has said Netanyahu's trip to Washington, over White House objections, was pointless and counterproductive. Dagan directed the Mossad from 2002 to 2010, a period when it reportedly carried out covert attacks against Iranian nuclear scientists and unleashed cyberattacks that delayed Iran's progression toward a bomb. Last week, Dagan told an Israeli daily that "the person who has caused the greatest strategic damage to Israel on the Iranian issue is the prime minister."
And some people continue to think that Jon Stewart on The Daily Show doesn't provide news? The video above puts the lie to that idea, and he does this sort of thing all the time. I'm just sorry that we are going to lose him. I'm also sorry that the damned video won't stop playing. The member who posted it should put a spoiler tag around the damned thing.
How is this not subverting a sitting president? Republicans Warn Iran -- and Obama -- That Deal Won't Last A group of 47 Republican senators has written an open letter to Iran's leaders warning them that any nuclear deal they sign with President Barack Obama's administration won’t last after Obama leaves office. Organized by freshman Senator Tom Cotton and signed by the chamber's entire party leadership as well as potential 2016 presidential contenders Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, the letter is meant not just to discourage the Iranian regime from signing a deal but also to pressure the White House into giving Congress some authority over the process.
Sorry, my bad. It woydlnt auto play on my laptop so I assumed it wasn't one of those auto play vids. I guess I have some setting enabled to prevent that. I agree with your sentiments though. I'm going to miss Stewart.
Israel does not care about the USA other than exploiting the political situation. I don't think they are unique in that regard (all nations do), but what is puzzling is the sheep that follow in lock step. Israel is an important nation in the Middle East and relations are important, but those that view their leadership and motives as pure are fools.... including a certain poster in this thread.
That's worse than the speech. Not sure what can be done about it. You can't impeach half the senate. I guess Obama can go crying to the Supreme Court with a lawsuit like Boehner did. Mostly though, they have the de facto power to do it because no one can stop them (except voters, but good luck with that).
Doesn't this set a precedence that will hurt every President from now on? I can't believe the GOP did this...
Obama goes around Congress time and again to pass Executive Actions, yet when Congress goes around Obama, then all of a sudden there is a "protocol breach". Surely even those on the left can recognize how hypocritical this sounds. Remember when Congress and the President could work together? The lack of leadership in the Oval Office is directly responsible for today's dysfunction. This President truly is that bad.
Honestly, both sides suck a fat one. There were no intentions from the get-go to work together. This has been the culture of Washington since the Clinton years.
