If this was an episode of the walking dead people would have gone nuts on twitter. Breaking Bad was just as slow at first.
Spoiler After watching only the first two episodes, I'm done for now. It's good, I'm just holding out until I can marathon everything at once on Netflix or something. Doe it seem like there's a ton more commercials the the average cable network, or just me?
BB was really slow, I think this is about as slow, but the recalling of old characters helps a little. I was lucky I didn't get hooked to BB till season 3 or so, then I just marathon'd. Made it so much easier getting through.
The slight problem they have is that, when they decided to have this as more drama than comedy, they invited more inevitable comparisons to BB. So far, at this point in BB (5 episodes in), you had Crazy 8 getting killed- they don't meet Tuco until episode 6. So, really, that's the only death you had other than emilio- and nothing else really that was that dramatic. But that 3-episode arc was intense. So, far BCS doesn't have anything like that. But it does have the same level of character development in terms of Jimmy, his brother, and now Mike. Maybe even Nacho. But I think there are those who really expect it to be at the level of BB. It will probably never reach that- and very few shows will. I mean, who is going to reach the level of Cranston in terms of a tour-de-force acting performance? Or Aaron Paul? It's just an unfair comparison. I do think that at some point in the next few episodes, something ****ed up happens- I have my guess as to a character that might get killed, but I could be totally wrong. I just remember reading somewhere that at some point in the 8th episode, there's one of those "oh ****!' moments. But we'll see. So far, I've give it a solid B. It's not great, but it's certainly very good and better than a lot of what's on TV. From an aesthetic standpoint, it's of course at the same level as BB. Like how they start with the cops tasering Chuck and it ends with the cops coming to Mike's door (also a kind of nod to BB when Hank and the DEA search his house).
Ok...then just stop watching it and wait until the season is over and watch on Netflix. Problem solved.
True, people that want intense episodes and action should binge this season when it's finished, but I like how they're slowly setting up the story arc and let us get to know the characters in a quiet way. __________ If you want to join the legendary CF fantasy draft with the brehs, you're welcome! http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=9594854
Two filler episodes in a row. I think stuff is going to go down next episode finally. I've been enjoying it regardless though.
I don't believe there can be a such thing as a "filler" episode when they're still trying to develop and set up the characters. This was the first extended explanation of Saul's brother's condition. We also see Saul's first real "lawyer for hire" experiences, and lastly we get introduced to Mike's backstory (even though he's an established BB character, we really don't know all that much about him... hence he's being set up as a new character that needs explanations). The one thing Gilligan proved with BB is that he has a plan/story to tell in mind from the very start... unlike a lot of shows that run out of material by season 2 and have to resort to making stuff up as they go along.
I have to say the "allergic to electricity" angle is a stroke of genius. I've never seen that one played before. Hilarity ensued when the doctor turned on the electronics on the hospital bed and he didn't flinch. Brilliant! "These electromagnetic waves are making me THIRSTY!"
So tired of the "it's not as good as breaking bad" comments. Yeah, neither are the other 99 percent of TV shows ever made. It is a good show. I don't expect it to be BB. If that is your benchmark then you are nuts
Yes, it's crazy to compare a spin-off of Breaking Bad to Breaking Bad. I mean that's like exactly the same as comparing any other show to Breaking Bad.
So am I misremembering or was the diner Mike went to in this weeks episode the same one he and Olivia first met in to discuss the hit list in BB?
Possible, but please don't read to much into it. It's very likely that you go the same diner when it's near your work (or in BB past work) and where you live. Also really obvious he's not doing anything illegal yet.
