Hayes is the guy who if 6 inches taller would be a 1st or 2nd all defensive team, year after year. Great player when he was here. A huge coaches favorite. so much that Morey had to ship him out cause he was hindering the growth of the young power forwards. Hayes is likely going to be an excellent coach if he wants to coach at any level. But as the old basketball clichee goes, you cannot teach height.
DMo has the offensive skills but his rebounding and defense needs a lot of work.. A player like D. Jordan you have to keep a body on them and DMo was constantly trying to play too much help defense... You have to know when to help and when to stay at home. DMo has to learn this... The way that DMo was trying to box Jordan out on defense showed no fundamentals what so ever... Put the player on your back and make him go over your back. Below is the Short Arm King.... So you theory is pure crap... And he was great at rebounding and blocking shots... So your theory has no validation. T_Man

His defense is more than solid, his rebounding obviously needs work. As to those plays where he left Jordan to help with Paul, there should have been a player rotate over and all too often that didn't happen...but you don't blame that on DMo. When guys aren't rotating properly defenses break down.
Obviously you missed the point about your opponents will give you "respect". That means whenever they will penetrate to the basket and see your big men inside, what kind of perception they will have which will ultimately affect their decision making. Dwight has that kind of power that only a few other C in this league will have : that's respect. That respect may force the penetrator to rush their shots, taking a high angle over the board, making last minute pass to create a TOV, ect. That's something DMo can never be compared with Dwight. If Chuck Hayes will have the same body as Dmo, I am very sure he won't have that much charges in his career and he will play a lot differently.
The entire defensive problems are not all DMo, but he is a cause of it.... There's a time to switch and a time not to... He has to learn that... T_Man
D-Mo is playing really poorly. And I'll eat my crow. I'm a fan of Jones now. He's providing a lot to the team.

Eh not really. He hasn't had that issue the majority of the season. I think it has to do with legs or something. Or perhaps playing out of position. Because he's not a center regardless of how you dice it or how much DD tries to claim otherwise. No excuse though. He needs to do better. Because right now Jones is taking back the starting spot. And I'm liking what Jones is providing a lot.
DMo was a fouling machine 2 years ago, and he is tonight, but that doesn't mean he always is.... He might be 7' and possibly best suited to the C position - but he still needs to add bulk and strength. That's why he isn't dominating as a C in the short term! As for his rebounding, give up the dream of him being a 10 rpg guy, he is in the 6-8 range, that's who he is. Players don't 'learn' to become better rebounders... Skilled post scorer, let's rejoice that he's good in that way, and that he will most likely play next to someone who is a great rebounder (Dwight) as a Rocket!
He absolutely 100% must get stronger, or else he'll continue to get pushed around down low and give up rebounds and fouls.
Yeah I think you're def right about all of this. He needs to get stronger. And the rebound thing is overblown. All-Stars in this league like Gasol and Horford average rebounds in the 6-8 range.
Why does this have to happen after every game? If Dwight can't come back, DMO AND Jones are your front court of the future.
Dmo had that stretch where he was nearly unstoppable in the post but recently he's been struggling a lot more often. Could be better defensive prep or some regression or probably a combo of both. Just has to work on being as consistent as possible and avoid nights like tonight where he got into foul trouble.
Did you actually watch the game tonight? With 27 seconds left in the game, Rockets up by 3, Nets had the ball and sub in Lopez. McHale sub in Josh as C against Lopez, knowing that if Josh will grab any rebounds and he will get foul immediately and almost equal to a TOV. He still went with Josh. That tells you how much McHale value Dmo's defense and as the future C of the Rockets.
