Daryl- "We had several other conversations about several other players of "his" (referring to Goran) caliber that I'm glad didn't get leaked out"
Yep.... That bigger names that are supposedly "untouchable" really are more available then you'd think. Yeah, I mean I thought the comment was interesting. If he was glad it didn't leak out then that means he's most likely referring to bargaining position. If teams knew X player was available, it could make other teams come hard at that team for offers that put the Rockets out of bargaining position. My whole take on what Morey is taking out of this last portion of the season, and postseason after the roster is built out is to say "Lets see what James Harden can do" playing at the level he's at with a team that is built strictly to let him be "The guy". If the Rockets don't go anywhere this postseason than yeah I don't think I'd be shocked to see some crazy roster changes yet again with only Harden, and Howard as the two guarantees to still be on the roster for the 2015/16 season. With Morey as the GM it sure as hell wont be boring any June, July, December, or February.
Either Maury is lying or he doesn't know what goes on in the cyberx thread. I'm pretty sure EVERY plausible acquisition was discussed
Hah..... I'm pretty sure Morey probably wasn't referring to "surprising player of Goran's caliber" as being Ersan Ilyasova, and Derrick Williams or any of the other 85 players said poster added to his sig. What's amazing to me though is of all the players rumored with the "Insiders" nobody in a million years would have guessed KJ McDaniels or Prigioni. When Daryl says that a player being mentioned is surprising than it must REALLY be surprising. Not Ricky Rubio or Ty Lawson surprising.
This is very true. As much information that leaks out from the the Rockets' FO, Morey keeps his cards close to his vest. I guess this goes to show us just how much the cyberx thread is an exercise in futility, haha
There were a few posters who predicted that the Rockets would get Prigioni in a poll. The acquisition of McDaniels came as a surprise, because it was expected that Philly would hold to him.
The playoff performances of D-Mo and Jones will determine whether we can get a starting caliber PG. Both of them need to shine, so that Morey can trade one of them and retain the other. The only other option is if a top flight PG prospect falls in the lottery to us. Honestly, I would hate to give up either of them, if they played extremely well in the playoffs.
It's better than buying **** you don't want, just because its on sale. We have a lot of QVC shoppers here on the board.
#Soon That's really just a throw away line with no way of verifying its accuracy and could literally mean anything. I would love to be proven wrong and Morey is a good GM but that's pure PR spin. Calling the Bulls about a Butler trade or the Pelicans about a Davis trade could in theory qualify as conversations. Just the other end of that conversation is filled with laughter and the sound of hanging up the phone.
I haven't listened in on the podcast but why do I suspect they didn't ask Daryl: "And why didn't any of those conversations pan out into a trade, considering we're supposedly in a 'win-now' mode?" "Were the other teams just not budging off ridiculous demands?" "I know you can't speak about specific players, Daryl, but is this an 'Either Kevin Will Do: Love in 2015 or Durant in 2016' thing?"
It's the opposite situation with Morey, actually. Sounds like there was plenty of things that Morey wanted, just couldn't close the deal because he wasn't willing to pay the price. Maybe this is OK, but kind of shows what good Asset Collection and Cap Flexibility are worth. You collect them, they are nice and shiny. But have to wait (and wait and wait) for some opportunities to arise before turning them into something useful. Meanwhile, the clock keeps ticking on the the careers and contracts of your own good players. Morey's done a fine job overall. But winning a title isn't just about doing a "fine job" or having a "fine team"-- it's about doing the kind of job that result in the very best team in the NBA. Morey hasn't managed to string enough top level moves to take his team from "just fine" to a team with realistic chances at winning the title.
