The team has a stupid coach, a stupid GM, a stupid offensive philosophy, a garbage PG, a garbage 37 year old backup PG, a bricklayer union member at SF, a scrub starting at center that should be cut, a player who can't rebound at PF, a player with no J as one backup (TJones), a bonehead as the 6th man (Smith)... Yet somehow have the 3rd best record in the West. Either James Harden is the greatest player of all time, or Coach Clutchfans isn't as smart as they claim to be.
Reason we will not make it out of the first round. I loathe this 3 and D basketball. It reminds me of street ball or D League ball. Just get a rebound, run it up and shoot a 3. Didn't make it? Shoot 15 more! Didn't make those, drive to the lane for a layup, miss, fast break other team. Or get fouled, clank or air ball the FT and whine. I'm a diehard Rockets fan, bleed Red, but this is honestly some of the worst "coaching" I have ever witnessed. The only set plays I see are out of timeouts. 3 and D and horrific FT % is not going to win 4 tough rounds in the playoffs. It's just a different beast once you get there.
that's unfair, that team was crap. Adelman is a good coach, maybe one of the best ever. He didn't have Shaq Pippen Kobe Jordan and was always in the mix to win it all.
What makes people think the 3-pt philosophy isn't working? I think it isn't as effective right now with Howard injured. But, what's the evidence that it isn't working?
Are you stupid???? Have you not seen the Rockets lose games this year???? That's all the proof you need. The Spurs would never be so stupid as to let a coach run a system that had them winning just 68% of their games!!! Analytics sux!
Yeah, it's all fine and dandy in the regular season. The playoffs are a completely different ball game. We'll see, but I'm not keeping my expectations up. Hitting free throws is CRITICAL in the playoffs, especially if you're not hitting your 3's. -Captain Obvious.
With a question like this, the correct answer is "all of the above", but in different portions. Myself, I'd put it at about 55 McHale, 40 Morey, with Les really only guilty by association. Certainly the personnel and the basic philosophy are Morey, but Morey's not the one calling 3 pick and rolls per game and following up 5 straight missed lightly contested threes with a play designed to get a lightly contested three. Mix in a little more P&R (even with Dwight out, but especially when he comes back) and a little more D-Mo, and the offense will retain its current baseline of efficiency while being a lot less prone to stagnation. Also note, it's not exactly an unmitigated disaster of a system. It's not inefficient, it's just predictable and prone to frequent highs and lows.
75% Morey's fault 25% McHale's fault Morey implemented the philosophy initially and hired McHale to run it, then failed to get the proper players to use. Also gets points for extending McHale needlessly. However, the blame still falls on McHale for running a JVG style offense of giving the ball to Harden every play. I want to blame McHale for being such a ****ty coach, but it also goes back to Morey for hiring the moron in the first place.
Exactly. The problem is that, unlike say March Madness, a player will almost never get hot for the entirety of the NBA playoffs-its too long for that. And even if an Ariza or Bev does get a hot three point hand for the entirety, it doesn't matter because our offense is still incredibly predictable. In a 7 game series against the best teams in the league, someone is bound to figure out how to shut down our simplistic offense.
We owned Golden State from 2009 - 2014 17 - 4. What changed, Golden State got a better coaching staff and put Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green in the starting lineup (2 better shooters than AI and David). As a result, floor spacing occurred. We fail to sign a starter that can shoot at 1 and 4 spots.
I refuse to vote on this. You live by the three & die by the three. And our record(38-18) indicates we've lived a helluva lot more than died... Go root for another team if you aren't satisfied with how the Rockets WIN.
That would be breaking the norm! Haha just kidding. But honestly, one of these guys or all are to blame, IMHO.
Watching the ATL game. . . . I think the philosophy is: 1. a bit misconstrued 2. can work. I think even our players misunderstand it . . . . I watched the Rockets move the ball and end up with A BUNCH of layups and dunks I also watched them get to the basket and then launch it out to a 3 A 3 attempt is better than a LONG 2 attempt. .. not better than ever 2 pt attempt Meaning . . .a Slam or a Dunk is best . . .Then layups. . . then in the lane .. . then 3's . .then midrange in that order I think in droughts they need to drive more and move the ball like they did for 3 quarters during the route of ATL They do it well . I just cringe when someone is rising for a dunk [exaggeration] and then throw it out to the 3 pt line Rocket River
