This might be lost here but I found this article pretty interesting and encouraging vis-à-vis Clowney's recuperation...
IMO it was very easy. If you had a young stud at qb then yea it would be tough to gamble on signing Peyton. But that's over with. Not the first huge mistake by Texans and definitely won't be the last.
http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/a...nksrc=story_article_yb_mainhead_head_18305291 ‘Serious concern’ over Jadeveon Clowney’s knee Spoiler Jadeveon Clowney’s rookie season was a disaster and went nothing like he or the Houston Texans would have liked, and now there is “serious concern” about his future. Clowney had sports hernia surgery in June after being drafted No. 1 overall, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee after getting hurt in Week 1, returned briefly later in the season and continued having problems with his knee. He only played in four games, recording seven tackles and no sacks. Clowney was eventually placed on season-ending injured reserve and underwent microfacture surgery on his knee Dec. 8, which is a procedure notorious for taking away a players’ explosiveness and requiring long recovery times. As of late January, Clowney could not put weight on his knee, but that isn’t stopping the Texans from saying they are hopeful he will be ready for Week 1. However, that optimism might be misguided. According to some new information, the Texans might not be expecting to get anything out of Clowney this year. Here is what Tony Pauline at TFY Draft Insider reported Thursday: I’ve spoken with a number of people since the Senior Bowl who have openly said there is serious concern over Jadeveon Clowney’s future. A variety of opinions have come from numerous sources, including those close to the Texans. I’ve heard everything from don’t expect much from Clowney in 2015 to the belief he may struggle to ever regain full health from the microfracture surgery. The reasoning for the latter is Clowney underwent the procedure at an early age. Between other football players like Brandon Graham and Gosder Cherilus who have undergone microfracture surgery, we have seen how rough the recovery can be. Clowney and the Texans will be lucky if he can return to his explosive self at any point in the future. We’ll be pulling for him. And suddenly those little controversies about him liking girls’ photos on Instagram during games seem so silly …
I have no doubt that Clowney's return to pre-injury ability is questionable, but if a medical improvement gives him a better chance at a full recovery, I'm encouraged.
Should we go after Bradford like the Browns?: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Report: Browns will try to trade for Bradford <a href="http://t.co/vUcoF2sYv4">http://t.co/vUcoF2sYv4</a></p>— Rotoworld Football (@Rotoworld_FB) <a href="https://twitter.com/Rotoworld_FB/status/568864581948350464">February 20, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
So I have read a few times now that the surgery Clowney had is tough to recover from , especially at an early age. Why would having the surgery at an early age be worse than at a later age? It seems like it would be just the opposite.
From what I've researched and read, The injury/surgery isn't something you actually ever recover from. Real hard knee cartilage does not regrow, only soft tissue cartilage. This soft tissue continues to wear throughout the persons life, especially so in an athlete. This will be a continued issue his entire career at which he will need continued constant treatment for. It will never get better, but progressively worse. And that's if he can even become productive from this initial recovery to begin with. I see the point being that if this is done at such a young age, you're future physical self has no real ability of ever reaching true potential, let alone a period in which you can be as productive as you might have been. Being older, you've already past your prime, with no real long term lost goals. All this optimism from Rick is very misleading, and down right out of line to even put that kind of hope on the kid. They are either doing this publicly to save face, and keep the kid in good spirits, or they are complete morons and truly expect him to be himself again. He MIGHT become a good situational pass rusher, but I highly doubt he'll ever be a 3 down starting OLB in this league. I would continue to build this defense as if he was never chosen. It's the hard truth. They blew a 1st round pick.
I doubt he restructures. He's helped out this franchise far to many times. He's at the end of his career, and he's going to get his pay. With the Cardinals deal for Fitzgerald, I highly doubt his going to take less money. He's better than Larry, and he isn't going to take less now. Rick absolutely is in LOVE with Jackson. You can see this in his combine interview. If we are to sign any FA CB, it's going to be him. Revis will ask for more than what KJ is worth, and I'll stick with the young guy that's been improving over the past few years. Plus Revis has a much better situation in NE. If I could make it work to stay there, I would do that over anything else.
And I'll pass on Bradford too. The Texans like what they see with Mallet, and so do I. Why trade away a bunch of picks that can help this franchise out (So long as they don't **** the draft), when you got a guy that wants to be here that you can sign for a much better deal? It's an easy choice.
As a backup maybe to replace Fitzpatrick. Or a starter with a rookie on the bench being groomed to take the reins. Mallet/Bradford or Bradford/Petty.
There have been plenty of players to bounce back from microfracture surgery, it all depends on the size of the injury and the specific area that was injured. The super pessimistic take is every bit as foolish as one that is super positive suggesting that he'll bounce back immediately and have a DPOY season this year. Unless you know those two factors....which none of us do, then you have no clue whatsoever how likely it is that he bounces back or how long it'll take.
How the hell does this keep happening? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ad-wrist-surgery-after-the-end-of-the-season/
He dashed only a yard in 4.35 seconds? That's pretty slow. I would think he could dash 40 yards in that time.
