Are you a Spurs fan if you think Greg Popovich is a better coach than Kevin McHale?

This thread exists because some people here think that if you don't think Les is the best owner in the league you aren't a Rockets fan, which is funny.

 

Any comparison of Greg Popovich as a coach to Mark Cuban as an owner should be laughed at and ridiculed relentlessly. Saying that comparison would be stupid would be VERY generous.

 

I can't believe this is even a thread to begin with. Pop is arguably the best coach in the past 20 years not named Phil Jackson

 

Nothing is wrong with being a realist; Pop is better and he has a drawer full of rings to prove it. The options in the poll are unclear.

 

Not so much...

Cuban turned around an entire culture in Dallas. Mavericks were a laughing stock for years, then were transformed into a perianal contender and has been a hot spot for years. Spurs had always been a playoff team throughout their history, then got lucky by sucking at the right time (ala Colts with Luck) and drafting Duncan.

 

Pop is obv a better coach, but remember, if the Spurs lost to the Rox that year before Duncan, Pops was to be fired.

 

They drafted Dirk, the best pure offensive PF ever or top 3 at the least. That changed the Mav's culture. Cuban broke up a championship team in order to maintain flexibility and capsace to chase DWill and DHoward and routinely overpaid for players.

 

So Cuban is a bad owner? Popovich lucking out and drafting Duncan has much to do with his success. It's not ludacris to compare Cuban to Greg.

 

There is more going on here than meets the eye.

What turned the Mavs around was drafting Dirk.....which happened before Cuban bought the team. Without Dirk, you wouldn't even know who Cuban was.

 

I am a Spurs fan because of Pop.

 

I no longer vote in non-public polls, unless Clutch starts them. Having said that, until McHale proves otherwise where it counts, namely advancing in the playoffs, making Western Conference Finals appearances, Finals appearances, and championships, I'll consider Pop a better coach. That's said as a Rockets fan of very long standing, of course. Why? In a nutshell, Scoreboard.

 

Tanking was the smart move, but SA was lucky Robinson got injured, the season Timmy was available. The same exact thing happened for the Indianapolis Colts when Manning got hurt the same season they Sucked For Luck. Spurs have never been a sorry franchise. They've only missed the playoffs a handful of times in their history. Let's not act like Popovich inherited some crap franchise, then morphed them into juggernauts.
