Can't argue with this. I don't see championships as a referendum on whether or not you're a good GM, but it simply has to be the criteria one uses to separate good GMs from the best GMs. Certainly playoff success has to be a huge factor. This is fair criticism. Sadly I think we are a 1st or 2nd round exit team again this year.
Not even remotely close. Even with just Harden, Howard, Ariza, Bev, Jones, DMo, Capela, Johnson and Dorsey and a cap of $67M, the most space we would have would be somewhere around $9M.
This is the crap that irritates me. Always having to examine cap space and take a guess at "if such and such comes." Newsflash, he ain't comin. Morey was in great position to snag Harden and Howard. And I give him all the credit in the world for that. But constantly hoping to catch lightning in a bottle won't cut it. At some point you have to use your know how and what you got to generate electricity.
Said flexibility and assets netted us an MVP candidate and when healthy, a perennial DPOY candidate. It's as though you complainers forget that DM inherited two broken down superstars and a bench full of average (at best) role players. Within 5 years of the Yao/Tracy mess, we already have two more superstars. Franchises just don't do that, that turn around is impressive, especially for Non-"big market" team. So, before you finish putting our GM on blast- look around the league. Go find where a team lost 2 superstars and replaced them as quickly as DM did. Let's see if Ainge can get 2 superstars and an MVP candidate within 5 years of blowing up their Big 3. I personally doubt he will. ...and LOL at the people blaming him for 8 years worth of first round and outs. I mean, don't the players have to play? And the coach has to coach? Would Morey have gotten any credit had Lillard missed that shot and we come back home to win game 7? Also doubtful. Thus, it's unfair to blame him for the player/coaching shortcomings.
The players and coaches are chosen by the GM. They're on him. Their shortcomings are on him. That's how management works...and that's how managers are held accountable, regardless of whether it's "fair." Fair doesn't play into it. Again...it's a bottom line business. "The buck stops here." GM's are hired to build winners. In the NBA, that's judged by playoff success since more teams make the playoffs than don't. I'm not advocating for Morey to get fired. Not at all. But I might sing a different tune if, once again, his team is unable to get out of the first round of the playoffs.
The Suns wanted the NOP pick, another first rounder, Motiejunas and another young player (Jones? K-Pap? Caanan?) The only reason they had to settle for the **** pile Miami gave them was because Dragic had ruined any leverage they had and Morey isn't an idiot who's going to give up the farm for a player who doesn't want to be here.

It's a GMs job to not wreck the future with short term moves. All of them do it to a certain extent. Except the bad ones who sign horrible contracts then are desperate to unload them. These guys are usually knowm as the Knicks. Heck, its exactly what the beloved Mark Cuban did when he broke up a championship team to go after Dwight and Deron. That's your extreme, stupid scenario which Morey hasn't done. He's improved the team most years.
Harden is the only foundation piece we truly have. Any foundation built around Dwight will crumble along with his health and pitiful post game. DMo is closer to being a foundation piece than Dwight these days.
If you said it a bunch of times, you have been wrong a bunch of times. Sports isn't a bottom line business, sports is the most complex business with more measures for success than just about any other business. This bottom line attitude that fans adopt is admirable in its passion, but woefully ignorant in practice, because it ignores circumstance, which has a disproportionate effect on the outcomes in sports, than it does on other businesses. GMs are evaluated on their actions, which is something they control, they are not evaluated on circumstance which is something that is not in their control. Morey is the best GM in the league, period, end of story. Its cute that you want "Accountability", but the real bottom line is that your anger over it is irrelevant.
I am disappointed the Rockets were not able to get a PG talent like Dragic and Brandon Knight at the trade deadline. But you have to give to get. Getting Dragic for Dmo+NOP pick + others for a RENTAL where Dragic was unlikely to stay would have been a bad move in my opinion. The Rockets are really close. I think they'll end up making a key acquisition sometime very soon, maybe as soon as the offseason that will propel the team to the next level. Then we'll come back to this thread and be glad we didn't piss away assets for a rental situation.
Ya I agree the rental would have been bad and with bosh being out and dragic still saying the Lakers would be interesting I can see him jumping ship because he doesn't look too loyal. With Anthony Davis having his shoulder injury I see the Pelicans dropping farther behind making their pick a nice sweetener for a team that has talent but is a few yes away that wouldn't mind a rookie with potential for cheap. I think we could trade that for a good deal like Lawson or something.
Miami fans about to have two BUMMER summers in a row when Dragic leaves this summer Goran Dragic bout to show the world he's on JLin7's level on the lakers
