10 a.m. update: Doctors had diagnosed Chris Bosh with a blood clot on his lung, a condition that typically would sideline players for the duration of the season, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Bosh remains at a local hospital and is believed to be on blood-thinner medication. He is weak and fatigued, but the longterm outlook is good. Though nobody has definitively ruled Bosh out for the season, it's difficult to envision him returning because of the nature of the blood-thinner medication and the toll such a condition takes on the body. It is unclear if Bosh will require any surgical procedure. Bosh had been feeling tired and fatigued, with some shortness of breath and pain in the rib area, over the past few weeks, but nobody suspected anything serious until Thursday, when he was sent home from practice and checked into the hospital. Last weekend, Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard mentioned that Bosh was dealing with a rib injury. Doctors suspect the pain was related to his current condition. Last month, Brooklyn Nets guard Mirza Teletovic was diagnosed with a similar condition (pulmonary embolus) and will miss the rest of the season. Cleveland forward Andersen Varejao was diagnosed with a blood clot on his lower right lung in January 2013 and missed the remainder of the season. "They told me stories like, 'Oh my God, I had a friend who died of a blood clot in their lung," Varejao told Cleveland reporters at the time. "A week after surgery, I was at home thinking about how I could be gone right now." Bosh is obviously a big loss; he ranks 13th in the NBA in scoring at 21.1 points per game. If he misses the rest of the season, that means that Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng and Hassan Whiteside will have played just 44 minutes together all season. Without Bosh, Udonis Haslem could move into the starting role at power forward. He has played mostly backup center this season. The Heat's backup power forward, Shawne Williams, was shipped to New Orleans, through Phoenix, in Thursday's Goran Dragic trade. And even if he's released by the Pelicans, league rules prohibit the Heat from signing him. As stated below, power/small forward Michael Beasley has interest in returning to the Heat, but Miami hadn't called him as of Thursday evening. Rashard Lewis also is available, having recovered from knee surgery. Another option is veteran power forward Andray Blatche, who recently completed his season in China. The Heat had not reached out to Blatche as of this morning, but he would make a lot of sense as a replacement. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...eigh-in-dragic-nuggets.html#storylink=addthis
Pulmonary Embolism is serious.. why so many players gettin it lately? i had a friend that had PE, and he barely made it out if we didnt rush him to the hospital.. very scary stuff
Good news!

Spoelstra said Bosh situation not life threatening. Surprised that Teletovic and Verajao had this. How common are blood clots in the lung? How did they get this?
Wish him a speedy recovery. Blood clots no joke. That being said, had we gotten Bosh and lost him to this and Dwight to the knee this place would be in Nuclear meltdown mode right about now.
yeah this doesnt sound like sth related to bball right, is it just some kind of random disease? never heard of it until now.... this probably doesn't have any relation to athletes, what a pity, maybe they know that already, that's why they signed dragic to give him more chance to shine
In normal people you get it because of blood clots in your legs traveling to and clotting up your lung arteries. I literally have no idea how athletes get this.
Maybe with all the airplane travelling and the beatings on the court? I think Serena had it as well. I hope and pray Bosh gets well.
I'm glad it was caught at the right time, and I 100% truly hope that he can get back on the court next year with zero lingering effect.
alotta pretenders on here acting like they all of a sudden care about random people in the world. Stop acting so high and mighty. That said, hope Bosh gets well soon so he can finish out the season for my fantasy team.
I care about Bosh's health and well-being. That being said, I have no sympathy for the Heat and especially their newly acquired point guard. On that topic, I wonder if they still would've made that deal with Phoenix had they known about this 24-48 hrs ago.
At this point, I just want him to survive. If he makes it back to basketball after this, fine and well. Is it worth the risk?
Bosh is in the first year of the largest contract in the NBA, 5 year 118 million. Hope he comes back but if not I hope Miami got insurance on that contract.
Wishing Bosh and his family the best...scary stuff no doubt... That being said...screw Miami--> enjoy paying off that 100 million dollar contract. And hope Dragic leaves yall high and dry as well!
I live in Miami and Are around these obnoxious heat fans. They're already yelling championship with the dragon. It's all wait til we get healthy the rest of the league is gonna see us. I'm like oh please. Now while I don't mind their best player missing time, bloodclots are serious and I hope he gets better. But i don't mind the heat failing at all! Dragon not resigning with them would be the icing on the cake
Wow, glad he's ok. I can't help but wonder how this would have changed things if it was reported yesterday. Does MIA still trade for GD knowing that Bosh is out the rest of the year?
