I think if we had two first round draft picks and Miami was the one with only 1, we'd have gotten Dragic. It's a shame we had to burn a 1st round pick on getting rid of Lin.
This thread is ridiculous. Now it's Harden's fault? Dragic and his agent wanted him to play in a big market and the other pgs had no choice whatsoever and were traded to wherever the GMs wanted. Besides most recent championship teams don't need a star pg to win- a good pg is what this team needs.
Harden is a point guard... What the Rockets need is an undersized shooting guard who can play on and off the ball. They just traded that away with Isaiah but still got Nick though.
How so? We have had Brooks, Lin, Beverley, Canaan, Terry, Tony Douglas etc all play PG with Harden here. Rubbish thread
I never said it was "Harden's Fault" or did I? He is currently the best player on the league and we should be happy about that, in fact it would be absurd to take the ball off his hands unless it is to give it to a better PG like Paul or Curry, we need a Robin there not a Batman!! I do think I am making a valid question, is Houston currently an attractive destination for a PG who is looking to be a star or not? Dragic was unhappy in Phoenix because he was not the first and only option, if he came to Houston his situation would have been pretty similar, he would have been behind Harden in ball handling, he would have probably even had the ball less time than in Phoenix. He is 28 years old, he is looking for his last big contract, he was not going to get it by being a 2nd or 3rd option in Houston. He wanted to go to the LAkers, Knicks or Heat because A) He would immediately become their "to go guy", pretty much no competition there with Kobe and Melo out and Wade almost being an ex player, B) These teams would have been able and would have been willing to give him the max in the summer and C) I think Dragic believes he is good enough to shine on his own and he wants "his" team, Houston is Harden & Howard's team, Dragic is nowhere near that level. If Dragic would have accepted to have a supporting role in Houston and would have intended to stay here long term, i am pretty sure we would have given Phoenix a good enough offer to get the deal gone. This is an example from a guy that had a say about his future, but there are other players who could have been traded here regardless of their desire but maybe that would not have been the best for their personal interest. For example Look at it from Brandon Knight's perspective. He is 23, he has not had a "big contract" yet, he is just starting to become the star we all believe he can be, he was on a team where he was the main option and their star so he could showcase his abilities freely and he proved that he was ready for something bigger, what was a better move for HIS personal interests? To come to Houston and surrender the ball to Harden or to go to Phoenix and share the ball with Bledsoe? Remember both Dragic and Thomas are gone now! Another possible example is Lowry, a lot has been speculated and said as to why he didn't come here, Bosh, Melo etc. but this theory could also have been a factor, Lowry found his niche in Toronto where he became a star, if he came back to Houston he would have been a role player again, not a star, was that a good move for his career? Bottom line i think that given that Harden is so good and he is the real PG of the team, our alternatives for getting a new PG should be a veteran who's already rich and has not expectations of new max contracts and that accepts that he will not be the ball handler or a young unproven hungry kid who's nowhere near stardom yet. The "I am ready to be a star" twenty something PG will not be that attracted to us because Harden's dominant presence will likely slow down their ascension to stardom.
I dont see how somebody would NOT want to play with Harden. He's an unselfish superstar who makes everybody better. Everybody
If Wade and Lebron can make it work a good point guard can play next to Harden. There are plenty of opportunities for both. Lebron and Wade were just as ball dominant as Harden.
So if that is the case Harden being the primary ball handler, why can't we find a deadly shooting guard who can somewhat handle the ball playing next to Harden? We have perhaps the best scorer/player in the league and he does need the ball in his hands like most great scorers do. I'm sure there are good shooters out there that can be had for the right deal. As long as Harden is with us there is no sense arguing about the point guard position.
yes...a pg who can shoot...it's one of the things I have been begging for like the past 2 or 3 years.
So you guys want a PG who can shoot and defend as well as create so that Harden doesn't have to bear all the offensive load? Newsflash: You're pretty much talking a high end player and they're not readily available.
I'll take a guy who can shoot 33% 3-pt, 45% FG, and dish out 5 or 6 dimes a game. As long as he gets in the way on defense, I don't really care
when i wanted both lowry and gogi to stay all replies i got was 2 pgs can't exist at the same time on the same back court. didn't want to believe it but who cares now that harden has picked up his effort on defense. You can't have 5 all stars at every position. with great coaching, you can still play great team ball, like feeding the post when the post is eating his defender. not so cleverly disguised feed demo the ball post.
