I'm ready to accept this kid will learn by watching Harden. This kid will produce. I hope McHale plays him.

They traded Dragic, IT, the Lakers pick (best pick owed by another team in NBA), and Plumlee and received Danny Granger and Brandon Knight.

Probably a lateral move at best.

MIL is the clear winner IMO. Miami did well too, considering they were already on the mediocrity treadmill. Their starting 5 could make noise in the playoffs if healthy.

This deal is okay, kind of a lateral move, I doubt he is in the rotation.

Very disappointing trade deadline to say the least.

This could be a sneaky move to get Ariza 2.0 down the line. We need an Ariza, but the current Ariza gets 7M per, while Mcdaniels could be locked long term on the cheap next year. So maybe the Rox let Ariza go in 2016 when his contract expires, goes after KD and then uses McDaniels as the new defensive ace.

Could be a genius move down the line. Let's see what happens.

Exactly this. And it is why I don't understand it. I think McDaniels gets at least a $4.5M average from someone and a good chance at a poison pill type offer. He is a good young player that could become a very good value, but the Rockets can't match a poison pill offer and kill their future flexibility entirely. Even if it is just a 4 year $16M type deal, it means they add no other FA (or retain Smith or Brewer) for 2016, so this year and 2016 is essentially punted. If they lose McDaniels to RFA because they won't/can't match, you have essentially thrown away a 2nd rounder and a cheap controllable player, who probably could at least get you a 2nd rounder or off loaded for no cost.

Unless you think McDaniels is very likely to resign for a non poison pill contract and be more valuable (actual on court performance, not combined salary) than the combo of Smith and Brewer, I don't understand being real happy about this trade.

Ariza is signed through 2018, so McDaniels would only be here until 2019 on his next contract. Ariza might be able to be traded, but his contract does not expire.

I really like KJ. He is a freak of an athlete.

I know people don't expect him to play much because of McHale but I can see him carving minutes. He is one of those "up and down" type players than McHale says this team needs. He has the potential to be a plus on defense and can run the floor and finish on the break better than almost anyone on our team.

His contract is worrisome, though. Hopefully he won't command too much in the offseason.

Hopefully the Rockets can keep him beyond this season.

Ben Gordon got 2 years 9M, Jodie Meeks got 3 years 19M last summer.
I think that's the floor for him unless he totally sucks the rest of the season.

He is a rookie though that hasn't proven too much. I don't think teams would offer him more than 4-5M/year. I don't know if we will keep him for that price though.

Might not be surprised if the Rockets don't play him at all to lower his price down? I don't know...

Don't see it. I could see him getting $4-5 a year, but that's the high end. He's not proven enough to get more than the #2 pick in last year's draft (Jabari Parker).

I could see a 4 year $16 million deal, which is significantly more than the deal he turned down from Philly.

What's that got to do with anything? 1st round rookie deals are not market value, they are undervalued/capped by the CBA(along with the max deals).

He definitely travelled! But hey - it's the NBA.

Or did he gain someone?

Not saying they are necessarily market value, but he has not proven himself to be an all world elite player. It would be hard to argue that a 2nd round pick was so undervalued that he's put himself in a better position than the #2 pick in the draft.

I don't think there's going to be a ton of teams with cap space this summer. How many do you think are going to offer more than the MLE on a 2nd year 2nd round pick?

Did you guys see the clip of McHale today? He was saying we are excited to have CJ McCollum. A reporter had to correct him and tell McHale the rockets got KJ McDaniels lol

I'd love for KJ to get some playing time but when the coach doesn't even know your name, it doesn't bode well for your future prospects.

This trad made to much sense, I'm guessing Morey is hoping for something under 3 years 12-15 million tho.

Where's cuban to ruin the fun

I said yes, but mostly because I thought Canaan was a dead end. Though I'm guessing he'll probably have a few games where he scores a bunch of points for the Sixers and people around here will flip out.
