You linked to a cleanse...That's basically thinking that certain foods are going to wash your stomach and intestines clean. The idea behind a fast is different, although i can see the confusion, since Jcee called it a detox.

I'll look for the link, but the point is closer to what Jcee said later, that it frees up the body to repair other things.

Smoking spliffs would ruin any chance I had at any type of fasting. Cannot get enough Caramel Delites, they're killing me.

I still wish I had that feeling of the greatest juice ever tasted. I cannot remember anything that tasted so insanely good in my entire life. Makes you want to eat an entire grocery store just to chase that high.

Or, skip one day per week. Or two days per week if you can handle it.

Instead of a once in 10 years week-long beat my body to death cleansing, giving your body a break every week might be much more sensible, manageable, worthwhile and effective.

There are studies that said that type of diet (eating normally and giving the body a break 1 or 2 x per week) is more effective than a normal daily restricted calories diet. More effective as in both weight management and health (both aren't always the same btw).

A break = very low intake.

I've used alternate day fasting for several years with good success. It's not as much of an acute blow to your system.

If you can find the documentary "Eat, Fast, Live" by Michael Mosley from PBS, it was pretty informative.

A water only fast, is that a thing now?

There are absolutely no benefits from a fad detox/cleanse like this.

I've tried the "JCI chili fast" were all you eat for a week is James Coney Island chili with....mixed results.

Maybe i'll give this water fast a try.

It's NOT a cleanse or detox.

It is when you add the honey, citrus and cayenne pepper for "nutritional value"

Perhaps some people are confusing the two...

Anyone expecting a cleansing of the stomach like with juicing is probably doing something else, a fad, like you said.

This is what has been found recently with fasting, although research is still ongoing:

I must of misread, not the first time! "Detoxing" and "Fasting" are much different. There is a whole host of benefits seen from fasting, albeit it's in its infancy study wise as you've mentioned. Improved insulin sensitivity, autophagy (cells repairing themselves as opposed to replacing/turnover), higher proportion of fat used as fuel, and other things I'm sure I am leaving out.

I do think most of the benefits can be seen as early as 12 hours fasting wise but I would need to look that up. As far as detoxing goes, the body does that for us naturally, and everyday!

    lol @ detox.

Fasting isn't as bad as some people make it to be. Just be patient.

I shouldn't have included the first one, I just found it first

I was really looking for the second one, or at least that information. You can find it at other sites, if you just dont like the telegraph. They're just the messenger, unless you see a problem with the research itself.
