I think that if you get Dragic and he is all about the money, then he won't leave if you offer him the full max (or as close as he will let you) over the 5 years. That gives you a serious windows of contending for 5 years, being solid at the PG position. Yes, it puts you over the cap and he is over priced for a year, but as we all know, the increase of the cap makes it an ok contract. I think his style of play lends itself well to growing old. What age did Nash get to before he started to break down? 38? If a 5 year contract takes you to Goran's 35th Bday, you're in good shape. It's plainly obvious that this is the start of our title contention window. Bold moves to go from fringe contender to possible favourite are what's required right now. Roll the dice, see if Dragic really wants to leave 7.5% raises and the extra year on the table as well as playing for a serious contender. I also don't believe the reports that he wants to get back at the Rockets. Why would a player plan to get himself traded to a team just to leave them in the offseason vs getting traded to a team he ACTUALLY wants to play with and getting the full max he is really after (see % raises and 5th year). It makes no sense. I also don't see how what the Rockets did to him would offend him so much. My current position on this is that he actually does want to play for the Rockets, but this is the current strategy to lower his trade value so the Rockets don't have to give up D-Mo or even possibly Jones. To those who say that he could get traded to a team on his list...Surely said team would ask to talk to Goran first before trading for him, to which he could then say that the list is bogus or he was misquoted. I would actually be shocked on Thursday to find out that Goran did not end up a Rocket. I think there is misinformation flying everywhere so as to confuse the competition and will ultimately benefit the Rockets. All ^^ said, I'm VERY excited to see how everything plays out.
That makes no sense at all, saying he won't re-sign here won't cause us to up our bid, the complete opposite really.
We all assume that he will accept the 'max' contract next year if offered, but that will make him richer than JH13 and DH12, which is not good . . .
Let's hope Gogi's agent doesn't flex his muscles and get him traded to a team of his choosing. Fegan really effed us that summer that Dwight went to LA, really opened my eyes to the amount of power agents hold.
I'm not sure it is that bad. Bosh was going to be offered more than JH and close to DH. Once Harden gets his raise, he will be probably closer to $30 million per season. Really, if this is the move that makes us favourites, then it's time to do it. Time to pay some lux tax Les.....
I just hope that if we have no assurances that Goran will sign with us next season, D-Mo and Jones won't be part of the deal. Losing potentially an All Star talent fof a rental...............count me out.
Is pat Bev a restricted free agent? If so, maybe rockets can get Dragic's agent to push him to Houston. In return the Rockets will renounce Patrick's restricted free agency rights and make him an regular free agent. Just trying to come up with something in the Rockets favor. It's 4am and this is the best I could come up with.
I agree. Now that he is being seen as a rental, it's Pap, Schved and NOP #1 pick. I then send out Jones for a backup center.
The Knicks and Denver 2nd round, if we're outbidding the teams who he says he wants to go to, then we're really doing it wrong.
A 9 year rookie. Sad. Still doesn't know the rules: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/member.php?u=19349 Um, the NBA doesn't work the same way. Baseball is basically free-market, the NBA is not. You're not trading DMo and the NO pick for Dragic, you're trading xyz for the negotiating chip that no one else will have. I call it: The 5th Year. (It meant something to Bosh and Melo, so it's worth buying.) I actually think all the cards have all been dealt to the Rockets and all that's been said makes us really lucky. 1) Dragic says he wants to run the team. It sounds like he wouldn't want to play with Harden, but if he's trying to help out his future team (ie the Rockets), then he's doing a great job of bargaining for us. 2) Houston not on the list: why would Houston want to keep me? Duh, for the 5th year rights, but we're not telling anyone that. Still good for Houston. 3) Trade to Houston screws Bev's contract.... Great for Houston! 4) Lakers will wait... and not get rights to offer that 5th year (friggin dummies) The only one that really gets screwed by this is Les Alexander and us fans in 6 years when the contracts run out. I'll take that 6 years of bliss if Les is willing to overpay for it. Let's win some championships again!!! I know my little theories don't have to be correct, but something tells me Goran is putting the cross-over on the league and Morey is coaching him on it. All this news is great news! Goran is on the move. Also, let's say this doesn't work out and we need to do a sign and trade to get Gogi a 5th year on his contract. Imagine what we'll reap from that! Win-win-win!
why send out jones for a backup C? If that is the trade that ultimately happens, we will have an open roster spot... This will allow us to potentially sign Jermaine O'Neal (if he is willing to come here) or trade a 2nd rd pick for Ian Mahinmi from the pacers and go all in for this season or any other option without giving up a major talent like Jones. I think that is the best case scenario and solves our issues/lack of depth at both PG and C... and Jones has a lot of potential and no backup C in this league is worth as much as him due to age/contract/potential.
Morey went chasing after big game, Goran pulled a Bosh on him. He could have easily picked up Mo Williams for hardly anything. Ridnour will be our PG Dorsey, if he does come here.
Henson needs another center to come back. Honestly I think nothing happens with either Henson or Knight. I could be wrong but there would be SOME kind of leak. don't give up so easily. I think a deal can still be reached. But for sure the price won't be two seconds as some have said. Why? Simply because if the price is so low the Suns either will keep him or leak it so suddendly there will be 12 other teams offering more for a 30 games rental. Like for a last time attempt to make something in the PO even if they know they will lose him afterwards.
You're better off accepting no, than going above those two seconds. The goal here isn't to keep piling on the assets until they say yes, the goal here is to win a championship, and overbidding for a 3 months walkaway rental isn't that way.
Just an interesting thought, trade Howard, Capela and New Oleans 1st round pick for Kanter and Gobert. This is nothing serious. Please don't take it seriously.
sure but this way you don't get your rental for you run to a championship either. There is still a price threshold and two seconds is something that every other team with inspirations will be willing to overcome. If Morrey's offer is two seconds better not waste any more time and try to get Lawson. He has the assets. Just trade Jones somewhere for a first.
