Give them whatever they want within reason, Morey!

The Suns' price and leverage for Dragic has just dropped significantly.

    From USA Today:

Goran Dragic wants out of Phoenix.

According to two people with knowledge of the situation, the representatives for the Suns point guard told team officials in a Tuesday meeting that he has no plans to re-sign in Phoenix this summer as a free agent.

With the Thursday trade deadline looming and the clear message now sent that Dragic plans on playing elsewhere next season, it remains to be seen if Suns general manager Ryan McDonough will succumb to the pressure and agree to a deal. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

The main issue, according to one of the people, is that Dragic wants to run his own team with the kind of freedom and support given to someone like Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. The decrease in production this season, as he sees it, is directly tied to the decrease in time spent as the lead-guard with the host of ballhandlers that surround him. Dragic is averaging 16.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 33.4 minutes per game this season.

While the Suns could trade Thomas as a way to relieve the obvious pressure in this point guard dynamic, it appears that Dragic does not want to return even if a move like that was made. The Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers are known to be among the teams pursuing him, and that list of serious suitors is believed to be seven or eight teams long.

Any team that trades for Dragic would certainly want to know whether he's willing to sign with them this summer before doing a deal, as the prospect of giving up the necessary assets only to lose him in the summertime is certainly not tenable. Dragic, who is represented by BDA Sports Management, would strongly prefer to play for a playoff contender.

If Marc Stein is correct then there is no way that the Rockets trade for Dragic. Sorry it is just not going to happen. Ty Lawson maybe then?

Disagree. Morey had a deal ready to go for Dwight when he was in Orlando, despite the fact that his people and agent insisted he would NOT re-sign here. I think you go for it, so long as you don't gut the roster in any meaningful way. Trade whatever picks necessary, and any player outside of Howard / Harden / Ariza / Motiejunas / Smith / Brewer.

Why is everybody ready to give up so much when this guy would only be under contract for less than half a season?

Move on from Dragic, people. He is good, but not that good to get $20M a year. Some desperate team will pay him that, but it aint gonna be Morey.

This season holds a big hope. Maybe you're right. . . . It's really rare to have an MVP-type guy like Harden, and all the rest of our roster. If we miss though, and can't keep Dragic after this season, that will hurt. If we let Dragic walk like we did Parsons, plus we've lost Jones or something, that's going to hurt. Is he worth that much to this particular team? More than Harden? I think Morey can do better with that money. So I only count Dragic as coming for this season. Maybe I'm being too conservative. . . . It feels like a special season.

I think of it sort of like an "all in" move. Dwight's career seems on the decline. At some point you gotta add the last piece and go for that championship, rather than just flipping assets endlessly. It's unclear if another great player who could put us over the edge will become available anytime soon. Maybe Dragic is our missing piece.

I am quite surprised,as probably as everybody here, that the infamous meeting between Dragic and the Suns went that bad for the Suns. If all the stuff we have been reading is true, Dragic holds some major grudges at that organization, and maybe us too.

    Just crazy stuff.

Wow crap. At this point Morey and the Rockets need to look elsewhere. Absolutely CANNOT waste the Pelican's pick on a half season of Dragic.

I hope the reports that he doesn't want to go to Houston aren't true, but it makes sense. It's the Chris Bosh situation part 2. Morey needs to stop focusing on players that would rather be the man instead of playing for a contender.

Uh.... You know this is a great of a shot for the championship as ever right? The title can go to anyone this year.

Why jeopardize our flexibility and give out some young talent for a guy who has allegedly said he won't re-sign here.

This is a point guard heavy league - plenty of good pg's we can get for less...probably.
