No. That was just Chris Rock swallowing his load.

HAHAHHA, that's what I thought. Chris Rock always been on Murphy's dick for as long as I can remember. Oh what was the bit with Jon Lovitz????? At first I didn't think too much of it but now come to think of it, it felt pretty tasteless, no? Was it because Lovitz refuse to be in any of the sketches and the other cast members got mad and made fun of him that way? I don't get it?

I think it was a way to add a little comedy to a somber moment. He was obviously in on the joke.

He was pretty much the only funny person on there for a while - I believe that was right after Lorne Michaels left the show for a few years and it was truly terrible except for Murphy and Piscopo.

    1980 cast
Denny Dillon, Gilbert Gottfried, Gail Matthius, Joe Piscopo, Ann Risley, Eddie Murphy, Yvonne Hudson

1981 cast (all previous cast members were gone except Murphy & Piscopo
Christine Ebersole, Mary Gross, Brian Doyle-Murray, Gary Kroeger, Brad Hall, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Belushi

the crew kept changing dramatically year to year & Murphy and Piscopo basically carried the show until 1984 when they both left

NBC actually cancelled the show, but re-instated it when Lorne Michaels Came back for the 1985 season

Michaels started with a better, but still not great cast
    Joan Cusack
    Robert Downey, Jr.
    Nora Dunn
    Anthony Michael Hall
    Jon Lovitz
    Dennis Miller
    Randy Quaid
    Terry Sweeney
    Danitra Vance

Within a year, the show was back to prominence in 1986 with this much improved cast:
    Dana Carvey
    Nora Dunn
    Phil Hartman
    Jan Hooks
    Victoria Jackson
    Jon Lovitz
    Dennis Miller
    A. Whitney Brown
    Kevin Nealon

It really is akin to re-building a sports team.

What is everybody's theory as to why they did an "SNL 40" special now, instead of just waiting till SNL 50?? I guess a lot can happen in 10 years (and likely eliminates McCartney and Simon as performers).

Was it my imagination or had some of the performers started the after-party a little early?

Ellen Cleghorne seemed a little tipsy. So did John Goodman.

Didn't watch live as I don't watch SNL anymore. On these posts I looked up the video. The Jaws song did make me laugh but it was 13 minutes deep into a video that didn't even make me crack a smile. The kristen wiig song was painful, dana carvey bombed and then tried to act like he was singing ironically, but the entire video was painful until Bill Murray came on. He is the only one in the segment that still has a respectable career and the only one who actually gave it all he had.

Sorry I want to add I like keenum thompson but a reference to a funny skit isn't funny. The funny part about his skit is the hi hat.

Pretty crazy though how SNL 40 tripled the All Star game ratings, yes I watched SNL over the All Star game, no regrets either.

Then they asked him to host a few months later and produced one of the greatest monologues of all time:

Carvey keeps recycling that same old tired broccoli song on the piano. It was an implied "bomb" when he sang a few lines of that same old bit and finished. Then, he was like "where is my applause?" while raising his hands in the air like "wtf else do you want?". That's how I saw it anyway. LOL

I fear a new Wayne's World movie is now in the works because they probably came away thinking they should resurrect that act after that skit. ;)

He always was terrible live except when he was originally on the show in his younger days. Remember his own talk show? Yikes. He didn't look so good at the SNL 40 during his bit. He also has a new Griswalds movie coming out that I think he just finished shooting.
