It's actually very telling that ATW - the same person who would constantly bash others for not sticking to the topic of a particular thread - is now trying to stifle discussion on this topic by telling us what we should talk about instead (the Copenhagen attacks). The fact that he sprinkles in insults and lame comebacks only diminishes his arguments and makes him look childish.

The thing is, no one here disagrees that barbaric terrorist attacks committed anywhere in the world are atrocious, and yes, that the majority are perpetrated by Muslims. The problem is that this guy refuses to even acknowledge that Muslims can be the victims too. In fact, he wants to suppress conversation about that and, surprise, surprise, revert all conversations back to "Mooslems are bad!"

    Yawn.

I see ATW is on his usual vilify all Muslims agenda. Him and Bigtexxx are the dynamic duo of bigotry and hate.

Hey does anyone know why the Houston Chronicle has all of the comments turned off on the articles to this story?

I actually don't refuse to acknowledge that. It's just as sad and wrong when Muslims are victims.

HOUSTON -- Houston fire officials say there's been an arrest in the fire that broke out last week at the Islamic community and education center in southeast Houston.

The Houston Fire Department says the suspect, 55-year-old Darryl Ferguson, was charged with first-degree felony arson in connection to the Friday morning fire at the Quba Islamic Institute.

Officials say Ferguson approached detectives on his bike as they were canvasing the area around the center following the fire; Ferguson asked if they'd like to talk to him, so authorities invited him back to their office for voluntary questioning. Officials say it was then he admitted to starting the fire.

Officials say Ferguson, who lives near the center, has a previous criminal history including: Credit card abuse, trespassing charges, possession controlled substance and prostitution.

As a moderate bicyclist, I want to speak out against other bicyclists who are deranged arsonists, and assure everyone that not everyone with a bicycle is plotting to burn down places of worship.

    Anyway...glad they got him.

I guess we can expect all you conservatives to take to the streets in protest of this heinous attack on religious liberty.

All you leftists have once again embarrassed yourself. Some semi-homeless dude tried to warm himself by making a fire and you all tried to gain from it politically by labeling it a "hate crime".

What are you talking about? Republicans despise the homeless as much as Muslims. It was a hate crime alright.

Sorry I missed the place where every liberal on this board said it was a hate crime.

I would not be so tolerant or forgiving.

Islamic leaders of burned center ask prosecutors to drop arson charge

Flanked by clergy from a cross-section of Houston's religious community, leaders of an Islamic religious center Friday asked prosecutors to drop the felony charge lodged against a homeless man accused of setting one of their buildings on fire.

"We always preach forgiveness," said Ahsan Zahid, assistant imam at the Quba Islamic Institute. "Our God is forgiving. Our prophet was always forgiving, and God tells us we should do as we expected to be treated by others. We should forgive, and that is the request we made."
