I want Dragic. No doubt about it. He's the perfect PG next to Harden, and the perfect PG to run with our headband of brothers.

That said, if you are trading DMo, you better be getting something else back in another deal. We've needed a sharpshooter at the 4 for some time now, and we'd also need a backup rim protector.

Rockets have one more year on DMo's deal right?

If he keeps progressing, what's the chance that he Chandler Parsons' himself right out of town. Teams love to overpay for big man free agents. On a rookie deal, he's a great value... what if someone throws the max at him or something silly like that? Say, he comes out and hits a ton of threes next year at a good rate, like 38%, and continues to score like a boss in the post. An inside/outside 7 footer with skills? GM's wet themselves at the thought of getting someone like that.

Dragic potentially is a rental, but I don't think anything is guaranteed long term with DMo.

I'm mixed on whether I'd make that trade, but I think people are making assumptions with respect to DMo that I don't necessarily think are true.

    So what?

It's a lot easier to find a competent tallish player than it is to find an All NBA 3rd Team player. Hell, the Rockets can throw some extra assets PHX's way and ask for the inclusion of Brandan Wright if you just want some height.

Everybody should go follow Bimathug on Twitter for his analysis of our trade options. Of everyone here, I think his thought process is most similar to Morey's.

Regarding this question, I agree with BT that it depends on whether Morey can get commitment from Dragic to resign. A mere rental for the rest of the season is not worth it.

Now, is Dragic worth a max contract (because that's what he will command on the open market)? I think the answer's gotta be yes. With the upcoming cap jump, a max contract now doesn't look nearly as bad.

For those people who say Morey didn't think Lowry was going to be that 3rd star for us this past summer, Bosh seemed to be such an obvious "good" fit that we had to prioritize getting him if possible. Lowry wasn't going to wait around to see if he could be the second option for us.

Also, the hole at PG only seems so glaring now with the emergence of Motiejunas and decline of Patrick Beverley, both equally surprising events.

At the end of the day, I think it hinges on whether we are willing to pay the max to keep Dragic (probably yes), whether we can get him to commit to resigning with us (probably not), and how much ELSE we give up besides D-Mo, if D-Mo is going to be the centerpiece of a Dragic trade.

Theoretically, our best offer D-Mo, the Pels pick, both the NYK and DEN second rounders, and Terry (our biggest expiring contract), for Goran and another small contract like Zoran. I don't know if they have a bad contract theat they would like us to take on (nothing pops into mind).

Would you do that? Because that's why PHX is likely asking for right now, if they are open to the idea of trading Goran at all.

Best argument i've heard through 11 pages and it was 1 sentence.

If Dragic catapulted this lineup to favorite in the West then I'm not sure how anyone can argue.

I know i've been on the fence regarding this for a variety of reasons but at the end of the day if Dragic is the guy we are missing that makes us a legitimate championship contender then u just have to pull the trigger.

Not now. Our PF/C is very unstable right now.

    Howard's health is uncertain.
Jones has not been good since coming back.
Smith may not be resigned after this season.

We are basically left with Motiejunas and Dorsey. You trade DMo, all you have is Dorsey, unless if we also get a solid PF back.

    So would you trade:
DMo + Ariza for Dragic + Markief Morris? Would Phoenix?

1 step forward, 2 steps back? You lose DMo and you are stuck trying to find a legit big man right at the time Dwight is sidelined for 6-8 weeks. No thanks.

Would need a whole lot more than DMO and Ariza to pry away those two dudes from Phoenix.

No. No way either team does that. The twins aren't breaking up and we had one here already. I'm sure Marcus wouldn't recommend the Rockets to his bro. I would trade D Mo for Dragic only if they sent Plumlee or Len to us as well (Plumlee would be the one I assume). Without getting a rotation big in the trade our front court would consist of a recovering Jones, Josh Smith, and Dorsey until Dwight got back..in other words not good enough. Throw in Plumlee and it would make more sense.

In Phoenix's opinion, Markief --> Motiejunas would be a downgrade. They already have too many wings and have no need for Ariza. This trade does not make sense.

If you want a serviceable big man from Phoenix also you could go for either Brandan Wright or Plumlee, but remember Phoenix was asking for a first rounder for Plumlee alone.

depends on who else is available...

If Okafor is ready to roll and has an interest - yes...

If Lawson can be had for the Pels pick and spare parts - no...

If D12 was healthy, I would do the deal in a heartbeat, since Gogi would make us a legit contender...
No D12... we cant afford to lose the frontcourt help (depending on who would be available to pickup....

Basically, trading DMo for Dragic is an all in move to win this year... while sacrificing a very promising up n comer in DMo for future year(s).... do we have the horses to win it all this year? Prior to 'bone on bone' I'd have said yes... at this point.... idk....

It's Battier/Gay scenario all over again....

I think Goran makes us a contender for the title -- we need to get him back on the team. Bev is awesome, but he's clearly a bench guy -- a 6th man -- I think he would be a huge defensive spark off the bench for the Rockets.

You keep offering TJones until the very last second. But yes. If we don't get that second playmaker, we're not going very far in the playoffs. You've seen what happens when teams focus on shutting Harden down.

It's incredible how many people underestimate Trevor Ariza. Corey Brewer is NOT going to keep the Kevin Durants of the league in check for long.
