charlie palillo just said shved cant be traded till feb 19th, but im sure the rockets can come to agreement in trading shved today to any team, but actual trade will be on feb 19th. i remember the rockets doing this a couple of years ago with some other player. can't recall though.

You can't just throw out the word morons and then try and back it up with assists per game.

This is clutchfans. Home of smarter fans, bro. We actually understand analytics.

For example, Kobe's assist % as a ratio of usage % (eg. % of teammate field goals assisted while on the floor relative to % of team plays used is about .75 for his career), which puts him meaningfully below guys like Wade, Harden, Drexler.

Interestingly, MJ's % is right at Kobe's... but then MJ's usage was even higher than Kobe's, because he was so often scoring himself - MJ has the meaningfully higher points per game, per 36 minutes and per 100 possessions... and did so at a higher true shooting %. Basically, meaning MJ's assist%/usage% is surprisingly low, but explained by having some of the highest usage% of any player ever, which makes sense because he scored so much at such efficient levels.

You might say sure, but Kobe scores a lot, too, so maybe his usage is also high. And that's true... but...

Let's just look at assists per 100 possessions to make it a bit easier. If I exclude this year and last year, where Kobe played barely any of the seasons, his highest assists per 100 possesions is 7.9, an he has six seasons coming in at 7.0 or more assists per 100 possessions. Meanwhile, Harden was at 8 last year and is at 9.3 this year. MJ had 9 seasons at 7 or higher, 4 seasons at 8 or higher including one year at 9.9 assists per 100 possessions! Wade's numbers as a passer are particularly good. 11 of his 12 seasons have been 7 or higher, 6 of his seasons have been at 9 or higher and he's topped 10 twice.

    Point being?

When you look at this a little deeper, Kobe is shown to be in some ways the "bare minimum" passer he seems to have been. Which doesn't mean he doesn't pass... just means that he's made the obvious passes that you would expect someone garnering so much attention because of his scoring prowess would make.

    ;)
