The Indian guy shouldn't have kept trying to walk away. Add him to the long list of people who would be fine if they just did what the cops say. Not that hard, people.

He didn't speak English, doesn't that change anything?

It was obvious that the police wanted to talk to him -- even a non-English speaker could figure that out.

It was obvious that the man didn't pose a threat that require any take down -- even a Martian could figure that out.

That's why cop is being charged with assault? You are just being a troll.

And what about the cop -- what should he have done?

There could be a cultural component to this as well. Anybody who's spent any time around Indians knows that the older ones like to go for walks around the neighborhood in the evenings. The cultural differences I have observed through my personal experiences are:

    1) Indians do not typically smile and act friendly to people they don't know like Americans do. Instead, they have an expressionless look that can be construed as aggressive to Americans.

    2) I've noticed compared to Americans, Indians tend to stare at people more than Americans do. Again some may interpret this as aggression.

These could have played a part.

The main cultural component is that whitey thinks it's OK to body-slam an older person for "walking away." Was he under arrest? no.

Sorry, but it's hard to take you seriously when you refer to "whitey" in your post.

looks like he's about to be fired and charged with assault.

no grey areas here. no rationalizations by the police department. so good riddance officer obie.

the world's now a little safer for gentlemen with toboggans.

That video showed a ridiculous abuse of police power and their department isn't even trying to justify it. In fact they're charging at least one of the cops with a crime. Christ. What kind of country do you want to live in? What if that was your grandfather walking down the street? What if he was confused and scared and didn't fully comply with a cop's request or jerked his arm away. Do you seriously think that the correct police response would be to body slam your grandfather to the ground?

I've been involved in multiple two person take downs. Take downs of people both significantly bigger and smaller than myself and people who were serious violent threats. In none of them, zero, was the person we took down injured in any way. There is just absolutely no excuse for this bull****.

he was charged with a crime, not convicted. I'm in favor of a fair trial.

In looking at the video, he shouldn't have kept trying to walk away. That was clear. You can make whatever excuse you'd like, but it was so obvious the police wanted to talk to him and he kept walking away. It was not apparent what happened exactly before the takedown. He could have somehow made a threatening move to the police -- it's simply not clear from the video.

I can clearly see the old man was handcuffed right before the body slam.

At this point texxx is just having fun. The officer's superior saw enough in the vid to have him canned and criminally charged. Play on if you want...

    This really pisses me off.

What might even piss me off more is the ahole who called the cops in the first place.

Here is a tip...do not involve the police unless you absolutely have to. An old skinny guy walking on a street (where his son live, no less) should not intimidate anyone. God damned cops and over zealous citizens. Get a freaking hobby and stop butting into other people business!

Don't think he was actually arresting him, just handcuffing him for walking peacefully through his own neighborhood.

What's funny is that the dispatcher asked the caller to describe the man walking down the street and his first words is he's a skinny black guy with a toboggan. LOL
