Comic book readers said that Tyrese was a badass. In the show he was just bad. Wish he was an ass at the very least. What a boring wimp of a character. Glad they axed him.
As someone who followed the comics loosely before the show, about halfway through the episode, as bored to hell as I was, I was hopeful this was the turning point for Tyrese. I assumed he was transforming from wuss to badass before our eyes. It seemed like they would extrapolate Rick losing his hand in the comics to Tyrese losing his arm in the show. Then give Tyrese a new found edge. I even think they had him get bit on the left arm instead of his right (I assumed he was right handed). Then, after wasting 59 minutes of my life they just let him take his ball and go home like the wuss he's always been written to be on the show. Has anyone seen the Sunny in Philadelphia where the entire group goes to their high school reunion? They wind up doing a dance routine at the end. In their minds they think it's the most epic dance routine ever but in reality they are drunk, high, sick and sweaty. It's a complete disaster. I feel like the writers and director thought this episode was some masterpiece in their heads but it was executed like ****. The creative staff thought they were putting out some future cult-gem and instead just ****ted on everyone.
So, is now a good time to stop watching? I didn't watch the finale (know what happened) and I didn't watch on Sunday (know what happened). I'm just not that enthused about it. Not sure whether I should try to keep watching or not. I know that some of you still watch because you've invested a lot of time in the show (so have I), but if you "could" stop watching now, would you?
I didn't spoil anything. In the comic Rick had his hand chopped off the equivalent of 2 seasons ago by someone that isn't even around anymore. The producers already said they weren't going to chop his hand off in the TV universe.
That's the beauty of netflix. With binge watching, there is no "investment" Quit watching and if, in the event someone reminds you of it, watch it again.
I hate that Tyreese died. I was really hoping they would delve deeper into the character now that he was finally getting his spot in that episode. I thought what better way to get this guy kick started into bad ass Tyreese than to chop his arm off and send him back into the world f'd up and out for revenge. Alas, they took him away from the group and now their "moral compass" is again gone. Now I picture the group even more hopeless and desperate for a quick end, so that they now react to threats immediately instead of attempt peace meetings and such as they did with the Governer and Woodbury folks. I feel like the violence and deaths are now going to ramp up since we see that the group is slowly being picked off from what they had to begin the prison saga. I'm hoping that's the case.
It's pretty gimmicky but they've taken the Lost or 24 episodic format but applied it to seasons rather than episodes. What the format is is to take the traditional art of a story (setting, conflict, climax, and resolution) and time shift it a little to keep the audience wanting more. So say you're binge watching Lost and you "just have to keep watching", the best trick to stop is to watch 15 minutes of the next episode to get the resolution of the last episode and then call it a night. What the ****ers at Walking Dead have done is to frame the seasonal cliffhanger as the conflict rather than the resolution. If/when it's ever the case of the group snapping, that's the season finale. So pretty much what we've seen so far is the bookends of a season being interesting and in between you have this lull of buildup with some bones thrown here and there. This gimmick is becoming more common place. That plus the "flash forward" story telling is pretty cliche and played out at this point.
tyrese was a total bad-ass in the comics...i hated the way he was portrayed on the tv show. kept waiting for the moment when he would evolve and stop being such a wuss, but it never happened. abraham too - he is way more level-headed and cool in the comics...on the show he is a short-sighted, raging lunatic without a hint of common sense. i get that they arent following the comics, but i wish they did those two guys a little better. the one who is closest is eugene...looks exactly like the guy in the comics.
I really liked the episode. Pretty much had my eyes swelled up with tears for over half the episode. Felt bad for Tyrese, the flashbacks really had me guessing as to whether he would survive or not and come to finally be the badass I heard he was from the comics.
I've wanted to stop watching since season 2 but for some reason always end up back watching. May be about time to try to get myself off this show again.
I'm the same way, if there was something else playing like GOT at the same time, I would have fallen off a long time ago. I like the show but have never loved it, still perplexed by it's popularity, there are so many better shows out there.
I definitely agree with you. That method is getting old and played out, especially with this show. I enjoyed this last episode actually, it seems like the writers stepped out of their comfort zone and tried something new. It was probably their best portrayal of suspense within one episode they have ever had. Ever. During the episode I actually found myself talking to the TV, encouraging Tyreese to pull through and keep fighting. That's what you want with a show like this, interaction. I've found few and far between episodes that give me that feeling and reaction after the first 2 season. Sad to say but I keep watching, again, hoping they give me more.
A herd of walkers going towards a small barn? No worries, a tree will fall and kill all of them. Is the guy at the end someone from the comics?

When I heard him say Rick's name, this was the first thing that came to mind. He must know Morgan somehow.
Heart to heart talk in a mindfield of somewhat incapacitated walkers? Seems safe. Then a guy from the LL Bean catalog shows up. Haha.
