So, how do we know that the couple knew that the guy was running from the police?

If I accidentally got in a wreck I'd hate for the people in the other car get out and attack me. Looking at it from the police chase perspective they look like justice, but I wonder if they even knew that the guy was running from the cops.

 

I don't think we know that. That was probably just her natural reaction. Maybe she was having a bad day or just bought her van and flipped out, when they hit her. I'm guessing she heard sirens coming, eventually, and knew to hold the suspect down, although she probably still didn't know it was a police chase.

I think beyond whatever physical injuries there's shock from the impact and anxiety about seeing his mom fight.

 

I think the level of frustration is reasonable given the speed and impact of the crash with a kid inside. He probably didn't do a great job conveying an apologetic or cooperative tone. And cops seem to tailgate and put lights on right away if they need someone to pull over, then sirens on once the person gives chase.

Yup, it was about the car..no mention of the kid's behavior at all.

 

To be fair, the mother was probably in shock as well.
You can clearly see her embracing and comforting her child at the end of the video.

Mom is really pretty lucky. Anyone in a high speed car chase like that I would guess is better than 50/50 they are carrying a weapon. She's lucky this guy wasn't or the kid might have had some actual tragedy to be freaking out about if his mom had been shot right in front of his very eyes.

Course then we might get a new Batman.

Her other kid died a few months ago. Probably started reliving that.

 

Guy was lucky he was still conscious when the cop showed up.
