Nah Im anti-bull****. I know im outnumbered in this battle but thats because Im brave enough to set foot in this dungeon. Yof, Lof, and now the Mof. Basketball had been around over many years and this narcissistic micromanaging freak thinks he has the answers to win by creating a new analytical bs whatever you want to call it gimmick. Dont worry I'll be here when Morey is here on his 10th year try.
Morley was very smart to publicly confront Barkley. It's obvious that Barkley has a vendetta against the Rockets and his high profile position on TNT gives him the ability to affect public perception of the team, which in turn affects the the team's bottom line in a number of ways. This blow up is going to bring bring Barkley's anti-Rockets jihad out into the open. And because he's taken such a transparently idiotic position towards analytics he's going to get publicly and repeatedly slammed. The overall effect of this episode will damage Barkley and benefit Maury and Rockets.
I mean it takes skill to execute trades yes, but a huge part of the Harden situation to me was luck. If it was that easy to acquire a superstar like Harden turned out to be, Morey would have done it a long time ago. Lord knows he had been trying forever, only to get turned down by organizations and stars not wanting to come here until Dwight decided to team up with Harden. Of course as we all know Dwight turned down Rox approx. a year prior before Harden was acquired.
If the Rockets getting Harden is pure luck than just about everything in the sport is pure luck. Pure luck that we won the coin flip to nab Hakeem. Pure luck for Chicago that Portland passed on MJ after that. You can go on and on. What isn't luck is that we were prepared with the trade assets and flexibility necessary to be able to trade for Harden when the time came.
Barkley had no chance to win the argument because he doesn't even understand it. All the good teams use analytics. Nobody has ever argued that stats is greater than talent. Charles treats analytics like it is some magic voodoo you do with a calculator that makes you think that . You don't need analytics to determine that Lebron is good. You use it to determine if Harden is just another good sixth man like JR Smith or Jamal Crawford, or a potential MVP candidate worthy of a max contract. You use it to help find Parsons in the 2nd round, or replace him with Ariza when he is going to be paid too much. To find Beverly without using any draft picks. To trade Rafer Alston for Kyle Lowry. It isn't going to be 100% right all the time, and neither is any alternative method. The idea that the Rockets have to win it all, or that "proves" analytics doesn't work, makes no sense considering all the recent NBA champions have heavily used analytics. That is like saying Barkley isn't a hall of fame player because he never won a ring. No analytics proponent is arguing that talent isn't the most important thing to winning. Morey knows talent wins, so of course Barkley is "right" about that. Morey agrees with him. Why do you think we spent years trading "assets" to get more talent? Why do you think we tried to get Lowry, Carmello and Bosh this summer? He wants more talent. Analytics is just one tool to help find the not completely obvious talent that is out there, and chart the strengths and weaknesses of your team and your opponent. Whether the Rockets are contenders or not, is as Charles noted, based on how much talent we have relative to other teams. It's hard to argue that we would have significantly more talent with some other GM. You can argue individual moves and whether you liked them or not, but some people have this mythical replacement GM in their mind that would do everything Morey did right, plus fix all his mistakes. There is only so much talent to go around, and just because you recognize it with analytics or the eyeball test or any other method, doesn't mean you are going to have a chance to acquire it.
Listening to Charles talk about anything is like listening to someone struggle to put in their dentures, have another biscuit Sir Charles. Not worth anyones time.
See my previous reply to Indaface. I'm not denying skill or Morey but to say Morey has been such a genius in orchestrating the Rox recent turn of fortunes is exaggerating. Like the saying says, sometimes its better to be lucky than good and a big turn in the franchises fortunes has a lot to do with luck.
Getting Harden specifically was "luck", but a popular saying is that luck is when preparation meets opportunity. If the preparations were not in place then there would be no opportunity to get "lucky". If it wasn't Harden, it would be the next star to become available in trade. Harden as a sixth man on a team that lost in the finals was hardly an obvious choice to hook your franchises hopes on at the time. Every trade in the history of the NBA takes some "luck" if your team is the one that came out on the better side of it.
More than likely this is very true... But the problem is Barkley has been right.... But the GARM gets pissed when ever someone says anything negative about the Rockets For instance the subject of Dwight Barkley states - It's a shame that Howard still doesn't know how to post up and lacks so many fundamentals... The GARM goes crazy, gets pissed and calls Barkley all kinds of names.. Then we get Post... Stop giving the ball to Howard down low... DMo is a better option then Howard... We don't need Dwight... etc... Someone stated a couple of years ago you want the Rockets to stop getting negative feedback then win something... T_Man
Like I been replying, skill is involved with making trades and Morey had been trying with no success to land that big star until he finally was fortunate enough to get Harden. Nothing is a sure fire bet and yes luck can be a big part of trade success. I just feel Morey gets way more credit than he deserves a lot of the time, like he can do no wrong. My point is the jury is still out on Morey being a great GM. This franchise has not been all that successful in two decades and at the end of the day, people can't keep putting Morey on a pedestal if the team doesn't start having more success.
Anyone saying Barkley is right or taking his side against more information should get a month long time out. He doesn't want more information because he is a lazy fool. Anyone except a lazy fat fool wants all the advantages they can get.
He's done some great things for the team but I also agree that his philosophy doesn't work. I get that layups and 3's are the most efficient shots in the NBA, but taking away mid range shots makes absolutely no sense. Limiting the offense is the last thing you want to do.
Lol, can't tell if you're playing a blowhard character or if you're just unintentionally one of the worst poster's in the GARM.
