Exactly. This whole talent vs. analytics debate is eye-opening. Plus, it's like people are assuming that Morey has built his team exactly how he envisioned it to be and this is his dream team of analytical gems. Do they not realize that a GM doesn't get all of the players he wants? Some GMs may be able to land more of the players they want to land than others.
Morey has straight up gotten Barkley to look like a complete fool this morning. Everyone is running laps around Chuck.
Point is media is going to criticze Moreyball and his analytics until they yield success. And 1st round playoff exits aren't. Go win a ring and not a single person will bring this up. All those other teams have won rings and as such no one talks about their emphasis on analytics. Any time the word "analytics" comes up aroudn the NBA, it is usually associated with Morey and the Rockets.
when you see the word ANALYTICS & NBA.... ROCKETS & MOREY is the first thing that comes to mind though, all national games they talk about us and the non midrange shots, yeah harden takes them but the numbers back it up we shoot the most 3 and less mid range shots in the NBA. and I agree with other posters ROCKETS-MOREY need to make it out the first round. Morey is like a celeb GM, he needs to get his team out the 1st round too much talking
Morey should have never addressed this clown. How do you debate a dude who has dressed up like a woman and has kissed a donkey on the ass? Facts don't matter to Charles. Why do Clutchfans get upset? Hes paid for his buffoonry
sometimes when I talk to my smarter friends I feel like an idiot for some of the things I say, but then I remember that Barkley is still giving his "analysis" on TNT and I feel better. Thanks, Charles.
You know, you've been telling folks who happen to believe otherwise or who dare to have their own opinions to go someplace else years now and it's getting quite old. I saw one of your earlier posts attacking someone who wasn't lined up to kiss Morey's ass to GTFO and I swear that reminded me of when you said the same thing to folks who dared to criticise the great CD during the years when he was F'ing up this franchise. I mean, Jeez! You come across like a insecure 14 year old girl with your attitude of absolutism, fan purity and righteous indignation. Let's see what has roused your (self) righteous wrath and indignation this time: Forgetting the 1st law of sewage (Don't start no ***** and there won't be no *****), Dork Elvis takes a swing at Barkley on Twitter instead of confronting said dumbass head-to-head on camera. Said dumbass, along with his faithful companion Shaquille, responds in kind in a rambling attack that was equal parts personal and incoherently stupid. OH NO HE DIDN'T!!! The red koolaid drinkers go ballistic - incensed at Charles (I always go to the buffet) Barkley for daring to speak ill of their lord and master Daryl M. Yet, in spite of the tremendous insults and show of disrespect Barkley hurled at the beloved D Morey, this morning I awoke to find the Rockets still in 3rd place in the West, 20 games over .500 and managing to win games without their alleged superstar center whose taste is clothes (and dancing) puts one Calvin Murphy's to shame. Gasp! How can this be??? Barkley verbally attacked our beloved Morey and it had NO effect on our team? You telling me that what he said counts for nothing? Really??? Wow! Who knew??? So I am forced to conclude here that what Barkley, O'Neill, Stephen A, Skip B or any of the rest have to say, write, tweet, blog, whisper, report on Sportscenter about the Rockets doesn't count for ***** because it doesn't affect the team's standing in the NBA. Now, let that sink in for a moment because it's clear to me that you don't understand that words cannot determine a team's fate. Rather, it's what it does ON THE COURT during the PLAYOFFS that is the ultimate indicator of said team's success or failure. As for the rest, it's all white noise to me. But then, I don't go about drawing lines in the sand over something as trivial as what's said on TV. You seriously need to find something meaningful to do - perhaps apply to be D Morey's Minister Of Communications.
my problem with these new analytics guys is that they have no respect for the older nerds that came before them, going to the sloan conference like they invented the concept. it wasn't a coincidence that elie and horry ended up wide open for the three pointer at their sweet spots every single time. No coincidence that sammy would come in for a change of pace and penetrate for buckets or fouls. These new nerds are just doing their work on fancy google machines while our championship personnel were using enigma machines. Oh, and george costanza was using this concept for the yankees before billy beane was even hired by the A's. pssh. show some respect, dork elvis! ughh I do hate the tnt broadcast, always have.
Barkley is still pissed about the millions he is allegedly owed by the Rockets. Prior to his inflammatory remarks he gave credit to the entire organization other than the front office. I have a good friend in Dallas who Barkley proposed marriage to. While taking a week to decide as to if she was going to accept she found out that he'd married Maureen. That told me everything I needed to know about the Chuckster.
Barkley and public commentators do have influence over the conversation. To brand the Rockets as controlled by analytics -- as if something that was antithetical to basketball - influences free agents perception and recruitment. Why would you want to work for an organization that treats you like a number instead of a human being or a talent? Morey does need to fight the public perception but he's not as good at the game as Barkley from his national TV perch.
I had no idea that words didn't affect the outcomes of basketball games. OMG!!! I literally thought that what Barkley and Shaq spew out of their pie holes had a direct correlation on the team's W/L record. This is amazing information. Can someone please verify if I don't start a WR in fantasy football that still means that the WR in question actually catches a pass? I know it does!
Charles Barkley is funny, honest and he knows about basketball. You may not like him, but you have to respect him and his words, especially since he's been generally right about what he said.

Huh? What did he say last night that was remotely true? Spurs don't use analytics? Rockets are the worst defensive playoff team? C'mon man
You ever hear the phrase "always stop your statement after seven words"? Yeah, me either, but I wish you had!
